If you’re playing a board game, and you know from the outset that if one particular player wins they’re going to steal all the pieces and set the board on fire, the rational response isn’t to just play on and pray they never win. You don’t let them join the game in the first place.

Maybe that’s a reactive take in view of *gestures broadly*, and I used to believe the exact opposite, but the thing I keep coming back to is that fascists exploit freedom of speech to gain a cultural/political foothold, with the end goal of destroying that same freedom for everyone who isn’t them.

I mean, we all know what would happen if they *did*, but they wouldn’t be wrong to do it.
