There is incredible good and deep work being done around the country. Don't write us off, join us. It isn't perfect, but it is real and important. Once you find that thread and pull a bit? It is astounding and beautiful what we've built.

I think there will be more as acceptance increases. Here in SF, I know a lot of trans people. Part of that is that people gravitate towards places where they are accepted, but some of it is people feeling comfortable coming out. I've known ~5-6 who came out in HS to my kids' classes & 2 in middle.

We have our fair share of reckless cyclists here, too. Oftentimes they can get out of the way more agilely than a car, but they should be at least looking for pedestrians. I've not heard of any bike vs pedestrian accidents here (they surely happen), but LOTS of bike vs car accidents lately.

When cyclists break rules they're mostly putting themselves at risk, because they can still be killed by cars which are a far greater danger. Cars have nearly killed my husband many times because he bikes to work near daily & cyclists are invisible to them, even with reflective vests, lights & all.

That's probably true here, too. We even tried to pass a law allowing cyclists to yield vs stop at stop signs- it didn't pass. I think it's fair for cyclists to use some downhill momentum to get up the next hill. The issue is that there are unsafe drivers (of all vehicles) & pedestrians everywhere.

My daughter's college roommate is trans (blue state thank fuck) & a close friend of my son's is trans. Plus like half my daughter's high school class came out as trans or nb. You can't know so many great trans kids & not worry about them now. I wish these legislators left their bubble of ignorance.

I talk with colleagues about how scary this is all the time (I'm cis, have worked with trans men & women, but not in a specialty GAC clinic).
Some of this, ,imo, is because so many people don't have trans friends, colleagues, loved ones (or don't know). It's easier to demonize people you haven't met
