Rarely is the terminal emulator the real bottleneck (if it is, it's usually I/O or a slow HDD). Most slowness comes from shell startup. When I first got into Linux I went wild with tools and ended up with a nesting like: sh → bash → zsh → zsh. I learnt to stick with simpler tools
