While the war of conquest persists in Ukraine and Russia small "victories" claims it is more and more clear that Russia shall not get their goals. No Ukraines land shall be given away, not a shred of land. Peace can not be traded with land, not an inch. What might be arranged is Crimea.

I am following the efforts of Pres. Trump to bring peace to Ukraine. It is so nice of him to offer the Donbass to Russia, even though the Donbass is not his territory and full of rare earths that he so covets. Why does he not donate a piece of the USA to Putin ? Say, Florida or New York?

So, if the rumours are true, Russia end USA are fixing an end to the war in Ukraine. Russia gets Crimea (that was already clear since 2014) and the eastern oblasts of Ukraine. There is still some debate about the exact boundaries but the mighty world powers will fix it.

The United States is in severe trouble. It is rapidly transforming from a rule-based state where decisions are made after, often fierce, debates in the government and congress to a dictatorship where a small group of people in power are sending the country towards a dark future.

It seems that Trump is doing the groundwork for a truly dictatorship. Bending the rule of law into the rule of Trump. Governing according to his own rules sidestepping existing legislation and punishing any opposition. Instead of building he is on a destructive rampage to demolish democracy itself.

Folks seem to generally not understand the tariff situ - it's a stealth tax where Trump collects the tariff while US consumers pay that amount more on their purchases.

Trump is destroying the US alliance network to take money from #American consumers so he can fund tax cuts for his oligarch bros.

So, what can be done about trade tariffs? Simply ignore them? Levy our own European tariffs? There is a better method. Let's use "The Boycott". If all European consumers refuse to buy American and boycott retail companies owned by Americans, the problem will be solved in 3 months, maybe faster.

What we see in the USA we have seen before. An elected president forms a government of mostly non-elected helpers to start the dismantling of government. Federal departments are dismantled or replaced by non-elected helpers with the only goal of doing away with any federal government.

For people who follow the war in Ukraine. Know your history. In the last century, from 1932 to 1938, Stalin and Hitler combined their forces to divide large parts of East Europa among themselves. Timothy Snyder, an American historian, wrote "Blood Lands" to describe what happened in those years.

Now that Musk threatens to disconnect Ukraine from starlink, unless they surrender themselves to Russia, a new low is reached in the "peace" negotiations. When a private citizen of the USA can force a country to stop defending itself against a brutal attacker one must ask how low can you go.

The conflict between the Israel and the Palestinians is now some 80 years old if we take 1948 as the starting point (the formation of Israel by a UNO resolution backed by a small majority of states). Ever since that year Palestinians, backed by a most of Islamic states, refused to recognise Israel.

One thing is sure, in my opinion. The war will stop somewhere in 2025 and diplomacy will take over. Enough is enough, the bloodshed must stop and both parties are exhausted and ready to compromise. Under Trump, the USA will focus on matters in their own house and loosen their bonds with the EU.

While hostilities stop, the fate of Crimea and the eastern oblasts will be decided. I see Crimea given back to Russia while the fate of the oblasts will be decided by a popular vote under international supervision. This process takes time to ensure it is honest and without outside intervention.

This year hostilities in Ukraine will stop with a cease-fire. The occupied territories of Ukraine will be demilitarised and an international military force will keep the peace, or anyway stop hostilities while the warring parties negociate how to wind down the war.

With Assad gone, will Syria change into a multicultural society with religious freedom for everyone? Or will it be like an Afghanistan-light with room for non-Muslim people? In countries like Turkey, Algeria and Maroc, different religions exist side by side. I hope that that also will be in Syria.

Today it is grey with a bit of rain. After shopping we prepare for our trip to Zurich next Thursday. To visit our son and family and spend some time with them. I hope weather will be nice but I guess I will not do much walking.

I wonder if one of my followers is familiar with post-covid? Have you had it or still having it? What can be done about it? Any suggestions? I got post-covid last year in April after a short and very mild infection with covid and could not het rid of it until now.

So, while I was busy with technology my wife was busy with her profession. She was a midwife in Holland and during her working life helped some 5000 or so babies to come in this world. Most were "house-deliveries" but her later years she worked in a hospital where she was senior midwife.

Hi, I am new to blue-sky. I live in The Netherlands, 82 years old retired male, been around (California, UK, Scandinavia). My main interests are politics, science, reading books, model railroads.. After 82 years I wonder why people wage wars if living in peace is so much more easy and satisfying.

So, Russia has a super-fast, multi warhead, far reaching missile tat they can send from far away into Ukraine. And can create mayhem with this monster. They may even have more of those missiles. Will they win the war with these weapons? I guess not, they do not deserve to win...
