Ok 3D printing anaesthesia nerds, give me suggestions of exciting and pointless objects we can print with one of these.

Hey @chrimesy.com, what do you think about titrating Sevo to BIS?

This hospital has implemented a policy of banning glasses with audio and video recording (eg Meta Ray Ban glasses). ❌🤓❌

I wouldn’t be surprised if other industries start following suit.

This was Nam Le’s work at RWH looking at nursing workload post LUCS.
“From this, we can estimate that on average patients who received neuraxial morphine required 50 fewer minutes of midwifery intervention time for analgesic
management.”

No risk score will be perfectly implemented. You still ultimately see some correlation in outcomes, in this case mortality after intra-operative cardiac arrest in the @webairs.com dataset. Limitations: voluntary adverse event reporting, no denominator. doi.org/10.1177/0310...

Want to reduce your plasma forever chemical (PFAS) levels?
- Donate plasma -
A study of firefighters in Victoria Australia demonstrated a significant (~30%) reduction in PFAS levels after 1 year of 6 weekly plasma donations.
Also, it’s free, you get lunch & it helps others

This is what I see in @anzca.bsky.social's PS04(A) Position statement on the
post-anaesthesia care unit 2020. Are you referring to another document? www.anzca.edu.au/getContentAs...

Context may be important here.
How is the EtCO2 used?
In patients with LMAs? Many hospitals in VIC have “T-bags”available that give an indication of respiration.
In most (not all) Australian hospitals patients with ETTs are extubated prior to transfer to PACU.

This was an FDA recommendation ~ 2007. Should be noted the case reports were prior to inclusion of preservatives/antimicrobials. Would depend somewhat on the formulation but just adds to the other risks associated with decanting across multiple patients. www.apsf.org/article/the-...

I don’t mean to sound like a tightwad, but we do deal with limited budgets in both public and private and we should all be aware of avoidable safety neutral costs.
Don’t get me started about these things for non-head surgery. Topic for another day @maffygirl.medsky.social ?

Today I learned about the “Obesity paradox”, where the presence of obesity in nonegenarians (90-99 years of age) is a significant protective factor against in-hospital mortality for patients admitted to ICU

Interesting unexpected outcome from the implementation of a high risk peri-operative clinic at Ipswich hospital. 50% of patients did not proceed to surgery after in depth discussion about benefits and risks with the patient and family.

Bluesky Safety Tip: When attaching media to a post click on the three dots on the bottom left, click “Options” and ensure photo location is NOT included. For some reason this was on by default on my account. If that was intentional it’s a dangerous design choice. @bsky.app

You too could pay $20,000 for this plasmapheresis like Orlando, or you could donate plasma for free to achieve the same whilst doing some good for others (and get a free lunch).

Meanwhile we caught the first snowfall of the season climbing Mt Bogong, Victoria’s highest peak. Well below sub zero.

I put up a similar sign in a share house I used to lived in, but about the dishes.
It did not go down well.
Got the message across though.
