I met nine year old Tuyisabe and his baby niece Julienne at a school sheltering displaced families in the town of Sake in North Kivu, DRC.

Tuyisabe and his family fled the war more than two years ago and until recently lived in the Bulengo IDP camp on the outskirts of the city of Goma.

“25 people sleeping in a classroom where they have to drag their few belongings out every morning because the classroom is used for school, then every afternoon return to the classroom to sleep overnight. It’s really subhuman.”

In September 2021, I took this picture of a displaced family in Kandahar, #Afghanistan.

Like millions of people around the world, they relied on life-saving aid from the UN and NGOs.

When humanitarian funding gets cut, so does their lifeline.

We owe them better.
