We drove up I-45 this afternoon. This picture was near Corsicana around 4:15. This cell contained some nasty hail.

Interesting.

Started a transcription of Vaughan Williams' 5th symphony (slow mvt), written while bombs were falling around him in London in the early 40s. He was 70, watching his world get destroyed. Very relevant to our times.

The music is emotional, yet serene and full of the deepest meaning.

One of the greatest pages in the piano literature- practicing it this evening. Anyone know what it is?

Coldest bike ride since March: 45 degrees with a sustained north wind. That's genuinely cold down here in Houston. 40 miles in, needed to stop for fuel. Regretting not wearing my shoe covers!

From today's Houston bike ride, near the San Jacinto river. A cold front made for gorgeous (if somewhat windy) conditions.

Took this little dude for one heck of a ride. Was on the car when I left my house, still there 2 miles later.

And here is peak load. Again, I don't see any load growth in NYSIO.

Here is an updated graph. The lowess function I was using to generate the lines in this plot was a little funky.

Load growth is on many stakeholder's minds, but not all ISOs are created equal. Here is a quick chart showing NYISO total daily energy vs. average daily temperature for 2022 through 2024. I don't see load growth, no matter how hard I squint.

#ercot briefly hit its $5000 real time cap yesterday, likely because the wind just wasn't blowing like it had been in the preceding days. Trump victory or not, TX sure does rely on renewables
