Let's talk about these two department store owners: brother and sister Louis Bamberger and Caroline Bamberger Fuld. From Newark, New Jersey.

They are random people, basically. But in the late 1920s, with fascism taking over Europe, they made a choice that profoundly changed the world: 🧵

The refresh of Elder Scrolls #Oblivion is wild y'all. It looks now like I *thought* it looked like way back when. If this release does well enough commercially, perhaps they'll refresh #Morrowind next? A boy can dream.

I'll be speaking at #OWASP #Snowfroc this Friday! The talk is called "Patterns of failure in modern #authorization" and it's about why #authz is getting harder instead of easier. Some academic research but also interesting examples of authz failure at large, well-known brands. Hope to see you there!

Listening to some classic rock lately and have rediscovered Blue Öyster Cult. Apparently they're still active, having released an album in 2024. For reference, their eponymous debut album came out in 1972. For further reference, my parents were kids when that album came out. That's wild to me, haha

Got the inevitable message that my Windows 10 is now EOL and that I need to upgrade to 11. The machine is perfectly fine but it doesn't have the secure boot stuff, so there's no good upgrade path. This isn't even my daily driver (I use a MacBook for work), so I'm definitely not buying anything new.

It is heartwarming to see three of the four #NHL divisions currently being lead by Canadian teams. Notably, my beloved @winnipegjets.com—who appear to have an active account—and the other great prairie team, the Edmonton Oilers. (Oh and the Leafs too, which is fine, I guess.)

All these companies out here with job listings for "senior developer" and "staff engineer", are the same companies that are busy trying to replace juniors and mids with LLMs.

Where do you think the seniors and staffs are coming from, my dudes?

The Welsh told the Saxons this hill was called "pen" (meaning "hill"). The Saxons added their word for hill, "tor," and called it Torpen (hill hill).

Later the Norse added their world for hill. So it became Torpen Haugr (Hill Hill Hill).

Now the English call it Torpenhow Hill (Hill Hill Hill Hill)
