Tonight's film was Monkey Man (2024). Very stylishly shot, really enjoyable revenge action film. Also, it is literally aggressively pro-trans, which is a plus.

Today's film was Frankenstein (2025). A reasonably faithful adaptation that largely understands the spirit of the story more than most others. It's not perfect, but I liked it quite a bit.

Today's film is Ikiru (1952). This one broke me, but the subject matter was pretty close to home. Beautiful, heartbreaking and absolutely a masterpiece. Also, I will now pretend that the building a park storyline from Parks & Rec is a remake of this.

Today's film was The Thing (1982). I can't believe this is the first time I've seen this. The Thing slaps.

Tonight's film was The Idiot (1951). As a film that was shot and edited to be a 4hr 25m film, then had 99 mins cut out to make it 2hrs 46m, it feels like half a film and too damn long at the same time. I'm not usually a fan of Russian literature, and even Kurosawa couldn'tmake it work for me.

Tonight's film was Son of The White Mare (1981). It was a thing I watched.

That's like the Emma Frost comic that was a serious look at her trauma growing up as a young teenager, and it had covers like this.

For those that would like a handy TLDR of my Final Fantasy opinions, here it is in tier form!

The best game in the Final Fantasy series goes to Final Fantasy IX. It is the apotheosis of the PS1 games, with an engaging story from start to finish. You will care about the lives and struggles of the characters. The combat is finely tuned and never feels half arsed.

There's little I can say about the second best Final Fantasy game that hasn't already been said. Final Fantasy VII is a fucking classic that deserves to be replayed and remembered forever. Rank A.
September 14, 2025 at 2:54 AM
The third best Final Fantasy game goes to Final Fantasy V. Tight, focused story, the best implementation of the job system and a main character named Butz (I don't care what they say it actually is). The quality never dips and there are no lulls in the story. It gets a well-deserved A rank.

The fourth best Final Fantasy game is Final Fantasy VI. Yes, it is an absolute classic, but what keeps it from ranking higher is that the game just kind of loses steam once the World of Ruin begins, stripping some of the emotion from the game by the time you finish it. Still great, though. Rank A.

The fifth best Final Fantasy game is Final Fantasy IV. Brilliant story, well fleshed out characters and a solid system. It ranks fifth not because it failed at anything, but because there are other games in the series that took and succeeded at bigger shots. I give Final Fantasy IV an A.

Following this is Final Fantasy VIII. Is junctioning a great system? No. But it isn't as bad as it gets made out to be either. The story is solid, there are plenty of fun aspects to find in all parts of the game, and the soundtrack provides some of Nobuo Uematsu's best work.

Now we go to maybe my first divisive ranking, Final Fantasy X. The story is brilliant and fantastically told. The world feels fleshed out and interesting. The combat works well and the levelling system has great variety if you want it.
