Good-bye, Martin Parr. Last May we were waiting, and waiting, for supper and had a laugh or two, which was typical for him. One of the lights of photography has gone out. it was probably a flashgun.

To my amazement, last October I saw this amazing 66-year-old beast, perhaps the ultimate example of magnificent excess, driving ahead of me on the A13 in East London.

I'm proud to be with these fine photographers in this great photo exhibition in the magnificent St. Anne's Limehouse. It opened last weekend and runs until January! Come on down and see the prints. The photographs are marvelous and the setting in one of Hawksmoor's finest churches can't be beat.

I don't know about you, but I often feel just this way when news broadcasts come across the TV.

Today's the Dominican Day Parade in New York! I'm not there but I've been. The first photo from 2005 has been published in "Bystanders: A History of Street Photography" by Joel Meyerowitz and Colin Westerbeck but the second, from 2014, has never been seen before.

Flaco Jiménez, King of Tejano music, has passed on aged 86. I was lucky to photograph him and his band for the Lonesome Pine Specials in the summer of 1989. His last words were “Ya estoy cansado.” Adios, Flaco, y gracias para la musica.

🧵1/3 The question of color vs. black & white: A few days ago, Alba Santiago Gonzáles (@butxy_ on Instagram) was kind enough to send this lovely photo of me that she made on the street in Dublin last month...

Full moon rising over Limehouse Reach, 10:11 p.m., 10 June 2025. I don't do anything particularly special other than glance outside, go "Wow!" and grab the tripod.

I worked all sorts of street fests on Louisville's Main Street even before I moved into the loft there in 1991. These were made with a Yashicamat TLR.

"Fans Find Fun in Fashion Faux-pas" Memorial Day weekend, 1988, HardScuffle Steeplechase near Louisville. 10 different women showed up in the same dress. They had separately gone to the Fashion Shop for lawn party frocks. They gave in to the fun of it & let me make the photograph.

As is often said of history, photographs don't repeat themselves but they do rhyme. In Livorno, Italy, two weeks ago I made this of a guy checking his makeup before joining in a Medieval festival. It reminded me of another photo I'd made in Oaxaca, México, twenty years earlier in 2005.

Lo and behold, in August 1989 I was photographing the Lonesome Pine Specials music series in Louisville. A Rounder Records' Artists show was featured and in through the audience came the same boy - bigger, stronger, and still blowing like Armstrong.

Rebirth is an amazing band. I have an odd little history with them: In 1987 I was in New Orleans and heard someone playing a trumpet like Armstrong, but in short phrases. I followed my ears and came upon this little kid blowing in the street:
