found a freshly-emerged luna moth and watched it power up over ~4 hours; it took off at dusk
A luna moth freshly emerged from its cocoon, crawling on the ground. Its wings are not yet unfurled. The same luna moth, now hanging roughly 3 inches over the ground on an arched stick. Its pale green wings have begun to unfurl, but are still mostly pinned near its body. Its red legs and golden antennae are prominent. The same luna moth, its wings now fully unfurled. A black line runs across the uppermost section, and there are four "eye marks" near the middle. Its lower wings trail at the bottom.

A compost pile, roughly 2 feet tall. It is dark, wet soil differentiated from the cover of leaf litter. You can't see them in the photo but there were a lot of worms. I wanted to name them all but there were too many to keep track of. They stayed in the soil or got moved to a nice little garden.
