I feel lucky to have discovered the Kessler sisters during the last few months they were alive. Their 1959 Eurovision entry is one of the greatest entries from the early years of the contest.

Eurovision's 40th year is one of the best so far. Not a single song I'd call outright bad, except the Russian entry that was performed in such an over-the-top manner that I burst out laughing. Now that's the kind of bad that I love to see. The funny kind.

Best of Eurovision 1995: "Fra Mols til Skagen" (Denmark). A sweet tune with a minimalistic composition that proves that sometimes, less is more.

Worst of Eurovision 1995: "Kolybelnaya dlya vulkana" (Russia). An unintentionally hilarious romp... the best kind of bad.

I bet money that many, if not most of the votes that went to Ireland, were actually for that Riverdance interval. Because that is a timeless and legendary performance, whereas "Rock 'n' Roll Kids" comes off as something like a dollar-store "American Pie".

Best of Eurovision 1994: "Wir geben 'ne Party" (Germany). A blend of post-disco and symphonic pop makes for a catchy banger of a tune.

Worst of Eurovision 1994: "Rock 'n' Roll Kids" (Ireland). Too much boomers being boomers for me to take; I'm baffled by how this won.

Boseman's career was and is legendary, even if cut short by his illness. It pains me to think of how many more roles he could have had, that he never got to play, and we will never get to see him in.

If any 21st-century actor deserves a star of the Walk of Fame, it is Boseman.

Despicable Me 🤝 Toy Story

Started in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio, then switched to 2.39:1 for one of the sequels, then inexplicably went back to 1.85:1 for the following sequel.

I'm... sure the people who made the movies know why they chose wider formats for one sequel.

Pixar just dropped the first teaser for Toy Story 5 today. Overall, there's not much to go on but I'll just say that it's crazy how the animation has come along since the first one and that I am excited to see where this goes. Can't wait to see it in June!

I saw someone call Ai a Thneed and I can't stop thinking about it. It's a PERFECT analogy. The Thneed was an all-purpose tool that didn't do anything really useful. It was a fad that did major damage to the environment to make the Onceler a billionare. It left no real lasting impact, only damage.

At Jenna's request, I also checked out the four songs that were submitted, but didn't qualify for the 1993 contest. I wouldn't have ranked any of them that high, but Estonia's was the best, followed by Romania's, Slovakia's, and last and least, Hungary's. 🧵

Best of Eurovision 1993: "Hombres" (Spain). Turns out quite a lot of the best Eurovision entries are about how men suck.

Worst of Eurovision 1993: "Shiru" (Israel). So 🦭ing dull, I almost confused it for a lullaby.
