And, while I’m at it, updating the engraving for my 2011 “Lux aeterna” for TTBB chorus. This short a cappella piece is part of my larger series, Light, which musically looks at the traditional treatments of the mystical light from several different spiritual traditions.

While I am at it, I revised and slightly recomposed a TTBB choral fanfare I composed a few years ago. “We Sing for Joy.” Now ready for publication.

Having a downcycle day: out & didn’t sleep well. But I did start a poem this morning.

I hate random “life coach” comments. There’s nothing tragic going on, it’s just periodic fibromyalgia troughs after several good day peaks. It doesn’t need “fixing,” I endure a lot that would destroy you.

An excellent and important thread.
My mistake has been trying to explain what "fascism" is to people who don't care what it is.

So I'm going to try something else. Let's do this as a practical thought exercise.

If America *were* fascist *today* - what would you have to do differently in your daily life? /1

Jupiter, Procyon, Sirius, and Orion
dance around the water tower

midnight cold makes us stargazers shiver
but the clear skies beckon a long look, and a far one

Folks, this is major news.

This could be even more useful if it framed the ND field as more than just autism. The lack of doing do so, creating a de facto binary dichotomy, has become annoying to the rest of the ND community.

Rural Life After Harvest

at sunset the fields,
shaved of crops down to dirt,
make skies look bigger

I eat the last strawberry
from your fingers stained with earth

After the busy past week, I needed to mostly rest today. Still, I did some writing, then revised and re-engraved a TTBB choral fanfare I wrote the music for a few years ago. Satisfying to get this done for publication.

One ~182km x ~211km solar thermal plant could provide all of America’s electricity, including a fully-electrified land transport sector.

100% clean power from just 0.39% of U.S land.

That’s why renewables are constantly under attack from the fossil fuel industry and their paid mouthpieces.

This 2-disc recording of the Fauré and Duruflé Requiems is one of my desert island discs. I have other recorded performances, but this one is perfection. I listen to it often on a Sunday morning.

If your church is turning away people who show up to your doors in good faith, you don't have a church. You have a very expensive book club with scarcely any wine.

My ND hypervigilant brain immediately tracks into verbal info. If I am writing I can listen to instrumental music, but nothing with words. Same for falling asleep. Unless the words are in a foreign language I don’t know (I know circa 4), then the words are just part of the music and it works.

I recorded performances of4’33” several times for my old podcast.

I get so tired of “what’s yoir favorite song” questions that I regularly answer, 4’33”. 🖖
I think it’s cool that 4’33” is still pissing people off. I saw it first hand in a music class I took in my undergrad program. People got viscerally angry about it.

This past weekend found me in my happy place for the first time in months: days of music, book arts, printing, creativity. Then I got home and have written a new choral piece. I also started in on cleaning and organizing the basement. If this is a new trend, after so much crap, I’ll take it.

My new “Ave Maria” is finished. Lots of fine-tuning of choral effects, divisi, with both thick chords and sparse lines. I want this piece, when it’s sung in a cathedral, to have emotional resonance, to feel transcendent, even sublime. The text is about awe, the music must be as well.

BREAKING: At Pope Leo XIV’s urging, U.S. Catholic bishops just delivered the strongest rebuke of a sitting president in Church history — condemning Trump-Vance raids as “inhumane” and “dehumanizing” in a 216–5 vote.
NEW: At Pope Leo’s Urging, Bishops Issue Historic Rebuke of Trump’s Raids
Nearly all U.S. Catholic bishops united in Baltimore to denounce the Trump administration’s “inhumane” deportation campaign — a near-unanimous, unprecedented moral stand against a sitting president.

See, this is entirely the point in all this, it’s the often overlooked point that defines democracy as a way of life:

NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.
The Trump administration broke the law yet again, and now a federal judge is ordering the review and release of hundreds of immigrants. No one is above the law.

I spent much of today polishing and engraving the “Ave Maria” for TTBB chorus that I sketched last night when I couldn’t sleep. Polishing is about smoothing out details, making the music sound internally coherent, and be properly expressive.

Yeah, so, last night I couldn’t sleep, so I sketched a complete “Ave Maria” for TTBB chorus. You know. Like you do.

It’s a strange world.

Let’s keep it that way.

That night when you can’t fall asleep, and music starts flowing in your inner ear, so you get out of bed to write it down.

Here’s the start of a nascent TTBB “Ave Maria,” then.

Aurora borealis photography RIGHT NOW in southern Wisconsin. These are unedited photos on my iPhone using 6x7 camera app.

The aurora right now is visible with the naked eye. Bright enough to see red and green without assistance.
