Outstanding photograph of #bats by Sitaram Raul, one of the entries in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2025 🦇
Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2025: one of the 15 winners.

In total darkness in an abandoned building, Sitaram Raul focused his lens at the distance where he expected the bats to appear, relying on his flash to illuminate the scene. Meanwhile, the bats “defecated randomly on me and the camera."

Longer term, governments can support alternatives like precision fermentation & cultivated meat which allow the production of meat, palm oil & soya products with a tiny fraction of the environmental footprint of existing agriculture.

Here's @georgemonbiot.bsky.social to explain how it works.

🧀Precision fermentation has been used for decades to produce ingredients like low-cost rennet for cheesemaking, and is now being used to facilitate more stable, sustainable production of common ingredients like milk and egg white proteins, palm oil and coffee. But how does it work?

To help make your garden accessible, provide clean water and a few cat biscuits (not bread, milk or mealworms) and ask neighbours to create highways (gaps in fence to increase hedgehogs' foraging area). Talk about them when you see them, and learn a bit about them. 🦔💚🐾🌱
