Such a good question, it got me thinking.
My answer - I'd like the journey my protagonists take to be what sticks with my readers. I want them to feel the anguish and pain but then the satisfaction at the end.
(Though the journey metaphor sound like it's out of Strictly Come Dancing! 😉)

I'm fascinated by all forms of mythology - the idea that at some point in the past, something happened that was so significant, it stayed in the human consciousness. Sure, it was modified over time but, as a writer, I try to give that event new meaning. The British Isles are full of such tales.
