Behold, the perfect casting pick for the antagonist would be ✨Anthony Hopkins.✨ He's got the expressions, the tone, the sneer! I'm not quite sure how I'd cast any of the other characters, but I'm dead sure about Anthony (especially as he appears in "The Father.") #Novmemeber

I'm going to be a cliche and say #OneHundredYearsofSolitude or #CienAñosdeSoledad by #GabrielGaríaMárquez! What is the town of Macondo, if not Colombia 🇨🇴 in its most fantastical guise? 🦜🌴🥭💜 #Bookvember #BookSky

I don't usually read #romance, but I absolutely loved #NormalPeople by #SallyRooney! Her minimalist writing style is a breath of fresh air, the dialogue in the book is out-of-this world, and the main characters (Connell and Marianne) are extremely well-developed. #Bookvember #BookSky

Nimue is an underdog and a risk-taker. She's used to fighting at a disadvantage, and she isn't afraid of failure. If you knock her down, there's nothing anyone can do to stop her from getting back up (besides killing her). #WritingCommunity

BONUS! Fiction inspired by Plato's Republic: #Piranesi by #SusannaClarke (It's the story of someone stuck in a modified version of Plato's World of Ideas!) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

#TheRepublic by #Plato 😂 I said what I said! No, I'm jking. Obvs this is an important text, but I do think it was taught to me by my profs in a way that obscured some of what it is: at least in part, a book advertising ancient eugenics and promoting an authoritarian form of government.🧵 #Bookvember

I present #Comedy,Seriously:APhilosophicalStudy by my former professor #DmitriNikulin. In it, he asserts that comedy and philosophical argument share the same structure and goals. In particular, he draws a connection between comedy and justice. WELL, I think he's ✨RIGHT✨! #Bookvember #BookSky

Here's one of my ✨FAVOURITE✨ nonfiction books of all time #CunningIntelligenceinGreekCultureandSociety by #MarcelDetienne and #Jean-PierreVernant! It explores "cunning" intelligence (🐙 Metis, my beloved ❤️) in Ancient Greek culture by examining its role in Greek Mythology! #Bookvember #Booksky

#WhiteOleander by #JanetFitch is a coming-of-age story about Astrid, the daughter of a murderess, as she navigates life in dif. foster homes. When I read this (20?), I was broke & living w/ a fancy grandmother who resented me (the daughter of the ⚫🐑). I *immediately* felt seen.🧵→ (1/3) #Bookvember

Connecting with her anger reminds her of who she is and what she wants. Rage may trip the antagonist up (ruining good relationships & ultimately working against his best interest), but it ✨empowers✨ the protagonist. Rile her up, and she becomes her best self.

Nobel prize-winning #HumanActs by #HanKang portrays a defining moment in Korean history—the pro-democracy Gwangju Uprising of May 1980—through and around the fictional story of Dong-ho, a young boy killed in the government-sanctioned massacre that ensued. A difficult, eye-opening book! #Bookvember

#PedroPáramo is a literary masterpiece by a pioneer of the #magicalrealism genre, Mexican novelist #JuanRulfo. The book is dark, disturbing, and definitely not for the faint-hearted, but also absolutely fucking brilliant and profoundly moving! One of my all-time faves ✨ #Bookvember #BookSky

#Borderlands/LaFrontera:TheNewMestiza by #GloriaAnzaldúa tackles issues of gender, identity, race, and colonialism! In particular, I love her idea of “mestiza consciousness.” It illuminated my experience of being between ethnicities/races and helped me be comfortable in my own ambiguity! #Bookvember

Hi #Bookvember 💙 If you're interested in art history, check out #JohnRichardson 's four-part #Picasso biography series. It's the most extensive and meticulous biography of the artist out there, and it's written by someone who actually knew him!

Currently reading #WhenWeCeasetoUnderstandtheWorld by #BenjamínLabatut and loving it? ⭐ Also can't help wondering: is this what Merleau-Ponty was so afraid of? Is this Descartes' legacy? The delirium of pure abstraction applied to the human soul? #BookSky

Presenting the #WolfHall series by #HilaryMantel, one of my favourite authors of all time! It's a historical rags-to-riches story following Thomas Cromwell, a blacksmith's boy turned advisor to the infamous King Henry VIII. The story makes it painfully clear women had no power! #Bookvember #BookSky

Just came across my MA thesis presentation notes lol 😂 My dept. only let us use one (double-sided) prompt card, so I converted my entire argument into glyphs. Still kind of proud of this, no matter the weird looks the examination committee gave me when they approved my materials 💜😂

Nope, I could read whatever I wanted! Although my dad did encourage me to read the classics early (I later learned this was so that I could hold my own against the literary snobs in his family). Today, we laugh about the fact that he gave me #DonQuixote when I was 10 😂 #Bookvember #BookSky

I loved the #FlowerFairies books by #CicelyMaryBarker! They were gifted to my sister and me by the ✨fairies✨, who also kept a weekly correspondence with us to see how we were doing 😂💜 We would leave them treats & gifts on our windowsill and wake up to find crumbs and a letter! #Bookvember
