Good Morning Blue Sky! Hope you’re all ok? Today I’m currently reading and highly enjoying Firstborn of the Sun by Marvellous Michael Anton for some epic fantasy back in my life. What are you reading at the moment?

This was really hard! I also listen to loads of goth, prog, metal, folk and indie. A ninth would be Pop Will Eat Itself.

Good evening. Just finished Dahl's Matilda narrated by Kate Winslet. An absolute joy and quite profound.
Halfway through Cujo which I am struggling a bit with and just started Baldacci's A Calamity of Souls, which is turning into a great read.

I heard that Chelsea Quinn Yarbro had died this week. This was sad news. I really enjoyed her Chronicles of Count St. Germain. They follow a vampire through the last 2000 years. Often painted as romances these are great historical novels from ancient Rome to modern America. Worth your attention. RIP

Sad, the people moaning about Live Aid. It was a great and well intentioned event. We have seen nothing like it since.
It was enjoyable and unifying.

I have to say my experience of fantasy is much the same. Hambly, Lee and Cherryh all featured on my shelf.
For #InternationalWomensDay here's a shelf of my books from the 80s: Anne McCaffrey, Jennifer Roberson, Carole Nelson Douglas, Barbara Hambly, R A McAvoy. I can't remember a time when my Science Fiction and Fantasy reading wasn't around 50% women authors -- who have, to be clear, always been here.

Time for a bit of reality - a thread.

Sales in the shop are doing well, but we're reliant on sales on the website to help pay the bills.

The website is reliant on social media, particularly twitter.

Since September, we've seen a big decline in people seeing our tweets.

@runalongwomble.bsky.social I have just come across your 2025 challenge thanks to @liwella.bsky.social

It is a bit serious, but I shall have a try. Probably holistically rather than month by month.

Anyone else joining in?

Pet hate in books. I have read a few novels where the internet seems to persist post-collapse. It would last a day or two at most given its huge power and maintenance requirements. Some local networks may persist, but the world wide bit would not. Moan over, have a nice day.

My TBR stands at over 1200 books in a variety of formats. Sort of good and sort of bad. I shall try and bring it down over the next year. If someone would like to remind me of this next January......it might be appreciated!
