I speak to a lot of undergraduate students who are interested in postgraduate study but don’t know where to start. This reminds me of myself & so I wanted to write “something” that would give people an idea of things to ask. Hope it helps: philmcaleer.github.io/thinkingmast...

Great episode of one of the best podcasts, #IfBooksCouldKill, covering aspects of psychology like first impressions, thin slicing, social priming, bias, Bargh & Bem, as well as a sprinkling of reproducibility. Fun to hear an external sceptical take on these studies. open.spotify.com/episode/2hcN...

What this also shows is that it would be trivial for Open AI to solve the cheating problem. It’s not an inevitable consequence of the technology but a business choice
One thing that is underdiscussed around AI and education is how much AI chat interfaces are setup to default to helping students cheat. It's also really easy to prompt them not to do this. Compare standard ChatGPT's answer to a custom prompt that tells the AI to make the student think critically

being a statistician with anxiety is funny because professionally you’re all “I love uncertainty, it’s the best, such fun” and then in real life it’s “no I’m sorry I cannot deal with uncertainty right now I am having a breakdown”

I'll be giving an unconference session at #MetaScience today at 14:00 on Papercheck. It will be a workshop on using and creating modules to detect (and correct) scientific practice and reporting. Come along if you're interested in how to use or contribute. No coding expertise required beyond using R

I worry about an outright ban of #AI use in Higher Education as much as I worry about the blind adoption of #AI. Much like anything in life, finding a balanced and appropriate approach usually benefits everyone.

CoPilot: "Here’s the updated image with the jumper color accurately changed to navy blue"
Me: "yeah, no!"
