Have you heard of the St. Louis Public School Stadium?? A great tie-in to the US Open Cup. That match vs @unionomaha.bsky.social is around the corner and STL needs to show up! May 7 at 7PM. Tell your friends.

Thoughts? I'm just posing some musings. What have I left out?

I don't love these comp stats, but it's easier to view than my spreadsheets. I often wonder if Mellberg would prefer Hartel where he is now...or dropping in constantly vs Hartel using his skills in the final 1/3. That area City is struggling to finish. Perhaps Silva can allow Hartel to stay high.

Hartel stats. Peep those final 1/3 passes/90 and Progressive passes/90 compared to last year. (Key passes have increased)

So of Löwen isn't carrying the ball as much...who is? I'm sure you came to the same conclusion as Matt and I: PROBABLY HARTEL.

As I pondered Löwen's role this year, I decided to compare some stats this year (too soon I know) to other seasons on a per 90 basis in order to see the difference after his role change. Results below: TLDR...pretty similar! No drop off in most areas EXCEPT progressive carries/90.

I’m ecstatic that St. Louis is in the Open Cup this season! Though I’m worried that next year, after what I assume will be a more successful season, our spot in that tournament isn’t promised. Sadly, as fans, the job isn’t done.

Good one from Hochman. This Lutz quote was a feature for me. bsky.app/profile/tomt...

Here's the trendy inverted fullback option. New signing Wallem fits it nicely, but both Watts & Pearce have done it too. They CAN overlap wide and do a decent job sending in a cross with their weak foot. They can also stop short or cut back and cross it in with their right.

Here are 2 players we've seen play a wide role for #AllforCity that can operate in the wide space quite high up the field. Celio is quite good staying wide and drawing defenders on the dribble. Indy has a good cross and can stay wide and send one in with his left foot.

Here's my guess at a baseline starting XI featuring Horn at LB. Left footed. Overlapping Hartel, but a splattering of cutting in as well. He's done it with success in 2024. Reliable 2 way player that gives Hartel the freedom we all crave. Great. What happens if he needs a rest/sub?

A too early question, but one I can't stop debating in my head. So let's start the conversation here! I've pieced together a few amateur options below since, understandably , it was a bit of a non-answer from the coach.

It's come to my attention that not every MLS team announces its full preseason roster, so here it is below. Be thankful!!!
January 13, 2025 at 7:41 PM
Notable Absences:
-Indy & Glover are with the #USMNT & U20's accordingly
-Totland is spending time with his newborn baby!
-Finnish 1st round Superdraft pick Emil Jääskeläinen is updated/changing his visa
-JGR & Durkin will return soon from injuries (more on this soon)
January 13, 2025 at 7:41 PM
Notable day 1 attendees:
-Miguel Perez has returned from loan!
-Celio Pompeu joined the initial running drill, then ran around the periphery during passing drills. He didn't seem to hold back during the running drills.

It's a chilly, but beautiful day for the first day of training at the #AllforCity facilities! You can see the snow is piled high on the sidelines, but the sun is shining. Lots to update you on. 🧵

I cloned Matt Baker's depth chart and added the Superdraft picks as if we signed them all. Just some thoughts:
-There are minutes available for Perez if he stays home this season, but they won't come easy
-Watts is the clear 2nd RB, but can Pearce or Zalinsky cut into that at all?

Thanks to Kevin’s generosity I was able to fit a lot into this interview. An inside look into Superdraft players, #AllforCity draftees, player pipeline, SLU’s season, the college landscape, and so much more. I think you’ll enjoy his perspectives and thoughts.

I've been beating this drum for some time as well. I'm very excited about Mellberg. I haven't changed a thing since this clip w/ KTRS' Soccer in the Lou.
