I never know what to write in these things! Been in DC for years now. Love travel. he/him 🏳️‍🌈
My ability to do “Create” on an @instagram story is gone. Create or Text used to be on the side menu above boomerang and layout. It’s now gone. I’ve tried sending Instagram a help support request but no answer. Any help would be appreciated! I want to create a story!

Well we’ve caught up! This was such an amazing year. So many good movies. But THE PHIL 2025 best picture goes to Anora. Another time I agreed with the Academy voters! Such a great movie.

Some scenes in the movie were filmed in my hometown of Clinton, MA so THE PHIL best picture goes to The Holdovers. Remember, Massachusetts bias will always win.
July 5, 2025 at 1:26 PM
The Banshees of Inisherin takes THE PHIL 2023 best picture.
July 4, 2025 at 7:25 PM
THE PHIL 2022 best picture goes to King Richard. A biographical sports film about Richard Williams, the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena both of whom served as producers of the movie.
July 3, 2025 at 1:07 PM
A movie about the Democratic National Convention. I worked 3 of them. A movie where one of the main characters (Abbie Hoffman) is from Worcester MA where I went to high school. A historical drama. This checks all my boxes. THE PHIL 2021 best picture is The Trial of the Chicago 7.
July 2, 2025 at 7:56 PM
de Niro, Pacino, and Pesci in a Scorsese film. Enough said. THE PHIL 2020 best picture is The Irishman. It was nominated for 10 Oscars and didn’t win any.
July 1, 2025 at 5:58 PM
It’s one of the greatest songs of all time and it’s the signature song of the band Queen. It’s Freddie Mercury’s magnum opus. THE PHIL best picture for 2019 is Bohemian Rhapsody.
June 30, 2025 at 7:57 PM
THE PHIL 2018 best picture is a TIE! And yes a tie can exist (see 1969 best actress). The winners are Darkest Hour and The Post. Love me historical dramas!
June 29, 2025 at 7:17 PM
THE PHIL 2017 best picture goes to La La Land. There’s a mistake. Manchester by the Sea you guys won Best Picture. This is not a joke. I blame Steve Harvey for this. Remember Massachusetts bias.
June 28, 2025 at 1:41 PM
THE PHIL best picture for 2016 is Spotlight. Why? Massachusetts bias. A movie about the Boston Globe reporters investigating the Catholic Church’s coverup of priests molesting kids. Another time the Oscars and I agree on best pic.
June 27, 2025 at 11:30 AM
In addition to my Massachusetts bias, I will always have a bias for historical dramas (see The King’s Speech). So no surprise that THE PHIL best picture for 2015 is Selma a movie about the 1965 voting rights marches. I visited Selma in 2014 and crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge was so moving.
June 26, 2025 at 11:48 AM
Probably the only black and white movie to win THE PHIL best picture is 2014’s Nebraska. June Squibb is a national treasure. And fun fact, Nebraska was the 49th state I visited.
June 25, 2025 at 10:11 PM
Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper star in the rom-com Silver Linings Playbook which takes home the 2013 THE PHIL best picture. Jennifer Lawrence also won for Best Actress.
June 24, 2025 at 7:16 PM
THE PHIL best picture for 2012 goes to The Help. I love a good ensemble cast! And this one has stars galore: Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Octavia Spencer, Jessica Chastain, Allison Janney, Cicely Tyson, and Sissy Spacek.
June 23, 2025 at 8:19 PM
Another time I agree with the Academy voters. THE PHIL 2011 best picture goes to The King’s Speech. A captivating story about the new king of England overcoming his speech impediment.
June 22, 2025 at 7:49 PM
Well for 2010 the Academy moved from the traditional 5 nominees to 10. THE PHIL best picture goes to PRECIOUS: BASED ON THE NOVEL 'PUSH' BY SAPPHIRE.
June 21, 2025 at 2:17 PM
THE PHIL 2008 best picture goes to the coming-of-age comedy drama Juno. Such a cute film.
June 19, 2025 at 2:11 PM
If you’ve been following along picking out THE PHIL best picture for 2007 is pretty easy. The Massachusetts bias again with The Departed. It has Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Jack Nicholson. Need I say anymore?
June 18, 2025 at 1:20 PM
Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal

I wish I knew how to quit you.

Tell you what... the truth is... sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it.

This is a one-shot thing we got goin' on here.

THE PHIL best picture for 2006 goes to Brokeback Mountain.

Brokeback got us good, don't it?
June 17, 2025 at 2:58 PM
Oh gosh I don’t love any of the movies from 2005. But one of my tests is what movie I would watch again. Using that test THE PHIL best picture for 2005 goes to Ray
June 16, 2025 at 5:45 PM
Perhaps it’s a subconscious Massachusetts bias but THE PHIL best picture for 2004 goes to Mystic River. It didn’t take home best picture but did win Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. And yes there is an actual river in Boston called Mystic.
June 15, 2025 at 11:01 AM
Another no-brainer. Another time I agree with the Academy voters. THE PHIL best picture for 2003 is Chicago. Iconic songs. A movie based on a musical based on a play. The movie won the Oscar and the musical won the Tony for best revival. Give ‘em the old razzle dazzle.
June 14, 2025 at 12:01 PM
This is a no-brainer. THE PHIL best picture for 2002 is Moulin Rouge.

Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?
