🎃 Happy Halloween 🎃

I was wanting to write something scary like “Mixed ethnicity families in British Tv Ads”, but it didn’t fit🤦‍♂️, so I just went with IRUME😀

It seems #Duolingo are stirring up trouble in Germany 😀

Hi #Genhour, bit late but nevertheless. I’m still cleaning up my wife’s side of the family tree. This week I’ve been working on the Langnese/Langnäse (Longnose) side.

(Image somewhat related😀)

Temporary Profile Pic - not at all AI generated. Perhaps I should run for President 😀

Also a few interesting snippets from the blog.

1. MH will "re-phase, re-impute and re-match" all existing results (see screenshot)
2. As suspected the WGS is 2x coverage, i.e. "each position in the genome is read twice on *average*", with imputation to fill in the blanks.

You have to chuckle at the subtitling from the Times. I wonder what makes the French police *think* the thieves used an extendable ladder to reach the first floor. 🤔

The disk is on display in the Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte Halle (Saale), which is one of the best/favourite museums I’ve ever visited 👍

There’s a good reason @barbaraagrass.bsky.social and I have spent the last couple of days driving back and forth across the width of Germany. 😀

We went to see the fabulous #NebraSkyDisk, one of the earliest (c.1800 BC) depictions of astronomical phenomena linking lunar and solar cycles.

And the M&S plastic bag they were in is probably the same vintage.

Doing some tidying up today and found some of my old #Subbuteo figures (c.1975).

The only thing that looks "accurate" is the Ancestral Journeys. This map of my Paternal side is correct.

So the 2025 Ancestry Heritage Update has, erm, dropped. A great chance to add new regions I don't have ancestors from. The East Midlands and West Midlands might be this years Welsh DNA, but good to see that I'm also getting South Wales and Leinster.🤦

Reluctantly went on Fb today and saw these two great graphics from Dave Vance (GM at ftDNA). These show the yDNA and mtDNA haplotrees. Admittedly you can't do much with these images, apart from go oohhh.

Nothing is more “Back-Endish” than making green tomato chutney (before and after photos for effect 😀)

Also, somehow not everybody is as happy as I am about the wonderful aroma of vinegar and cloves floating around the house 😬

Time to say farewell to my Win 2000 install diskette, the last of its kind 😢

You say Cianti, I say Shandy 😀

Watching the film adaptation of the fabulous book “Remains of the Day” and spotted this bizarre subtitling error. Clearly A beer and lemonade drink isn’t as well-known as it should be. 🍺

I see Ancestry are readying a 2025 update to their Ancestral Origins report. This will include new "Macro-regions"

Personally, I prefer the Places feature at dnapainter.com. If you can research your ancestors back a "reasonable number" of generations it gives you a much better feel (Caveats apply!)

Woohoo 🎉 I've finally found an excuse to go to a Genealogy Show (it's near my local Hornbach DIY store and I need a new smoke-alarm 😀)

Next weekend (26th to 28th Sept.) it's the 75. Deutscher Genealogentag 2025 in Frankfurt.

Whoops, I was just checking the Ancestry Trivia and accidentally answered it. I’m now ranked 1775386. 😢

Please send Thoughts and Prayers 🙏

Inspired by @allthosebefore.bsky.social I thought I should check the Ancestry Trivia Quiz😀

Sadly I don’t know who Philip Barry is 🤷‍♂️ however I’m feeling lucky 🍀 so I’m guessing Cork, Ireland 😂

I just noticed that Ancestry now has a transcription facility for documents (top-left in the image). Admittedly, I'm asking it to do an impossible task with some early German Church records that are recorded in parish-priest Latin😀

and … there they are. My first sighting of Christmas #Stollen. It feels like it was on last week that Pumpkin Spice Latte season began 🤦‍♂️

Why Ancestry ?😱

This is a feature I don’t want !

The Ancestry app is now doing “Trivia” quizzes. I have no idea who these people are and if they are in any way related to me.🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
