Librarian currently specialising in science and technology at a major London institution.
Important #britishlibrary announcement - you will not be able to order or use any item from storage within the Reading Rooms in the week beginning Monday 1st December. This is to allow us to install a new book ordering system that should be much easier to use than the current one.

PCS picket line at the BL today playing Alice Cooper as I arrived. (I'm in Prospect and we're still in negotiations but good luck to PCS colleagues)

How can this guy wear a Seventh Doctor jumper when the whole point of the Cartmel-McCoy era was that Tories are evil and must be destroyed?
The photography in this article really feels like The Times are deliberately setting these people up for ridicule. (You can read it without visiting The Times here archive.ph/KZZC1)

For Trumpists "sex trafficking" is when immigrants kidnap your children at the mall and sell them to DEMONcrats to sacrifice to Satan and make adrenochrome out of.
This is why, in order to get worked up about child abuse, they have to bolt on fantasies about Satanism and cannibalism. For most of them, child abuse of one kind or another is just family life, or a normal sunday at church.
A fan of President Donald Trump told C-SPAN that she wasn't concerned about the release of files on Jeffrey Epstein because it was "human nature" to molest children.

I think that's a fair headline. I recently read the doorstopper of the earliest Superman comics that DC put out. I was expecting the lefty outlook, but I was a bit surprised by how often early Superman wins by just beating nonpowered people up, or threatening to do so if they don't stop being evil.
Me: The BBC has become extremely Right Wing.

Friend: I don't think it has...

#uksg2025 Survival of traditional journal article is not a mystery. People who are not subject experts want journal metrics as an "objective" way to assess researchers.

Move to streaming has still hugely reduced viability of music as a source of income to creators! #uksg2025

Runner-up - Cliff Richard, "Mistletoe and Wine". Why is a Christian making a song for a time of Christian celebration that is such a DIRGE?
Fuck your favourite song. Tell me your least favourite song. The one that makes you die inside the moment you hear the first 3 seconds.

"Saturday Night" by Whigfield. Truly grating and awful. For a time there was a vogue for early "poptimists" to praise it and attack "indie snobs" and I cannot believe any of them were sincere.
Fuck your favourite song. Tell me your least favourite song. The one that makes you die inside the moment you hear the first 3 seconds.

Sounds similar to the mess-up at a crypto event a couple of years back when excessively powerful UV lamps were used in the effects lighting.

(the Gawker/Hogan judgement was at several multiples of the largest ever libel award in the British courts, and even more multiples of the biggest privacy award. I don't think the UK has ever seen a case where billionaire bankrolled the destruction of a publication)

can't be bothered firing up the meme template, but never ask a woman her age, a man his salary or an American critic of British libel law what happened to Gawker.

I've seen some weird leftier-than-thou provocations in my time, but my jaw still dropped at "middle class people shouldn't use public transport because they're stealing a service provided for the poor".

Scorpius: I’m an evil S&M alien.
John: I thought you just needed that leather getup to regulate your body temperature so you don’t die.
Scorpius: I do, the S&M thing is separate from that.
