On a mission to visit every pub in Sheffield, from A to B. I also like trains.
Pinned
I'm making it my mission to visit every pub in Sheffield, from A to Z, in order. That'll include all the good pubs, all the bad ones, all the Wetherspoons, everything. I'll post pictures and a little review of each place.
Visiting Manchester for my birthday, so I get a few bonus pubs in! Finally get to visit the Peveril of the Peak after years of wanting to go

Pub #26 is the Big Tree in Woodseats. Sure enough, there's a big tree in the middle of the very big beer garden. It's a big pub in general with one huge main room, and all the decorations have a bit of The Range about them.

Pub #25 is The Bessemer, just down the road from the Benjamin Huntsman. This may be the shortest distance of any of the 2 pubs on the list. In my mind it's a mediocre Saturday night sort of place without much going on, so imagine my surprise at seeing Moonshine and Deception on the bar.

Pub #24 is The Benjamin Huntsman in town. The second Spoons on my list and, for my money, the nicest of the 3 city centre Spoons.

Pub #23 takes us about as far out as you can go and still be in Sheffield, to The Belfry in Beighton. It's a Greene King so I don't expect my socks to be knocked off or anything, but it's nice and comfortable with a nice wood effect on the walls (or in some places actual wood).

Pub #22 is the other Beer House, The Beer House S6. It's an expansion by the same owner, which you can tell because amusingly they have a lot of the same beers on.

Pub #21 is the Beer House on Ecclesall Road. I'd never actually been, but I'd heard good things and I'm glad to confirm them. It has a lovely ambiance and it's nice and toasty which is a welcome respite on a very cold day.

Pub #20 is the veritable Beer Engine just off London Road. I've never been here when it hasn't been absolutely heaving, and it's no different tonight, in fact it's so busy that we have to sit outside in the lovely big beer garden.

Pub #19 is The Beehive, right across the road from us. I used to go here a fair bit when I was at uni, and always preferred it to the Cav, though I am disappointed that it looks like there's not been an ale on in quite a while. It's a big roomy pub which I think gets a bit dancey at the weekend.

Pub #18 is The Bear on Abbeydale Road. I'd never actually been before, mostly because I worried I wouldn't be able to find space, but it turns out there's a couple of extra tables tucked away behind a wall. In any event it was relatively quiet, so no issues there.

Pub #17 is The Beagle in Parson Cross. This actually used to be our local until recently, and it's the site of my first pint after the covid lockdown. Pretty much the last surviving pub in the area, it seems to be doing alright for itself, very busy whenever we've been in.

Pub #16 is the Bay Horse Inn in Pittsmoor. I have to admit my preconceptions played into this one, but I was incredibly impressed. The entrance is through a slightly scary, dark lobby, but once you're through that you end up in a lovely cosy main room.

Pub #15 is the Bath Hotel, my local! I live so close that the photo of the outside is taken from my balcony. It's wonderful, of course, with plenty of great beers on and two lovely rooms either side of the bar. The smaller, back room is my favourite, especially on quieter days.

For so many reasons, this pump clip gives me the warm and fuzzies. One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
Support your local pub! This week's new cask only release is a classic pale ale, dreamed up alongside the team from our very own local, The Rising Sun - now our Co-Owners too! Hopped with Willamette, Cascade and Centennial. Best enjoyed in good company.

Pub #14 is Barry's Bar, which everyone who's ever come down London Road will be familiar with. Its... reputation is reinforced by the walls which are covered with various notices and admonishments, but I actually found it quite lovely.

A bus down Abbeydale Road takes us to pub #13, the lovely Barrow Boy. A cosy little bar/micropub, it has some nice keg lines and also serves bao buns, my least favourite culinary trend of recent years. They're a good take on them, to be fair. I had a pint of good old Heathen.

Pub #12 is our first Wetherspoons, the Bankers Draft. A controversial topic, I never even really know how to feel about it myself. One thing I'm certain of is that Tim Martin is an odious prick who's made this country worse, but hey, most of the CEOs of the products we use are scumbags anyway.

#11 is the other Ball, in Intake. I forgot to get any pictures when I was in here, but it was a nice local pub with plenty of room. Good for watching sports and a nice pool table. As I expected there was nothing on cask, so a half of Guinness it was for me.

Pub #10 is our first Greene King, the Ball in Crookes. It has a very robust cask selection, but the pint of Little Critters Vanilla Gorilla was horribly off and acidic. Fair play to the staff, they immediately replaced it with a decent pint of Barnsley Bitter.

With A finished, it's time to get through the Bs. There's a lot more of these, and we kick off with pub #9, the Bagshawe Arms in Norton. It has a very comfy side room and the lady behind the bar was very friendly. No cask, so I settle for half a Tetleys in a Guinness glass at a very reasonable £1.70
January 28, 2025 at 4:03 PM
We head to Stannington for #8, the Anvil. The pub is one of the most beautifully decorated I've ever seen, a real gem. We sat in a really lovely cosy booth, but there was plenty of other wonderful-looking seating about.

Pub #7 takes us out to Grenoside to visit the other Angel. One of three pubs in the village, it has the most classic local feel out of all of them. Lively atmosphere in anticipation of a Wednesday game, and very reasonable drinks, though sadly no ales.

A miraculous 3-hourly bus takes us directly from The Alma to pub #6, The Angel in Woodhouse. It seems to be mostly a place for a Sunday, as that's the only day they do food. Very quiet when we were there, but nicely decorated and spacious with a decent beer selection.
January 26, 2025 at 5:15 PM
Pub #5 takes us all the way out to Mosborough for the Alma. A pleasant surprise, it's a beautiful community pub in a beautiful neighbourhood. It was buzzing when we were there, though the main area by the bar had a very low ceiling for a tall boy like me. Landlord on cask, which is always a winner.

#4 is a real treat, the Alder in Kelham Island. A great selection of both cask and keg, lovely decor and really friendly staff. There's seemingly lots of events and live music on as well.
