Is it possible for a house not in the top council tax band to pay the surcharge rate?

This is the practical result of the marginal rate curve you can see on our Budget tax calculator: taxpolicy.org.uk/2025/11/12/t...

And full write-up there.

Soho is largely indistinguishable to any other part of the west end now. Not sure what the spectator-ite is on about. But no doubt that Soho is a pale shadow of its former self.

Cars are 55% larger than the 70s, but the internal space for passengers has not increased by anywhere near that amount. The largest factor in increasing size and weight is safety features and the move to electric.

Very late to this but looks to me like there IS a correlation - imperfect but pretty strong - between immigration and public concern about immigration.
Question is how's this changed since 2016.

Taking him as face value joining Reform would not make sense as their policies would increase debt. Treating the party's announcements post election in good faith (which is naive to stupid), the Tories would seem to be the most fiscally conservative.

Aren't the Tory party the most fiscally conservative party at the moment? Obviously based on the limited policy details announced by the parties post election.

The article does not seem to include fuel tax on petrol and diesel or the many levies and taxes on electricity in UK. If included I think likely UK SUV owners will be paying on average more tax in UK than EU.

Legally - so you agree. Thank you. And not as you incorrectly stated in your first msg when you said fine. Well done for correcting

She will probably get a "careless" fine. She is very rich (top 1 to 2% in the UK by wealth) and the minister for housing there is no way she should get her housing tax wrong.

And HMRC will disagree with them, she will almost certainly get a penalty fine. No housing minister can survive getting a penalty for unpaid housing tax.

She's in trouble with HMRC. You seem to think she has done nothing wrong. I'm pretty sure HMRC will disagree and at minimum she will get a penalty fine. The housing minister breaking the law by not paying a housing tax is not sustainable.
