One of the best parts of being your Member of Parliament is getting out on the doors, chatting with people. Especially when the sun’s shining!

From UK-German relations to corruption and young people's mental health, there is plenty to get stuck into.

Bolton Council has been allocated £1.5m from the Pride of Place funding for High Streets. I'm pleased that communities will gain new powers to take over boarded-up shops, preserve local pubs or libraries, and clean up area eyesores. These powers will also help combat suspected money-laundering.

In September, I held two surgeries, one in Westhoughton by appointment and a pop-up at Asda. Most issues are handled via email; reach me at phil.brickell.mp@parliament.uk. Pop-ups aren't advertised but are perfect for casual chats with constituents.

Horwich Loco Works Road -Update
Unfortunately, there remain ongoing legal issues preventing the road from being opened at this time. Like many Horwich residents, I am frustrated and want these hurdles to be overcome as soon as possible.

Red Moss SSSI Visit
Yesterday I had the privilege of visiting Red Moss Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) with Lancashire Wildlife Trust.
Many people might not know but we are blessed to have this wonderful site just at the back of the Middlebrook.

Well done to Lend a Hand in Horwich who raised £211.00 for Macmillan with their coffee morning held at The Bridge Hotel.
It was a pleasure to be able to share the occasion with them and to chat to some local residents.

In Parliament today, I urged the Government to allow a debate on the issue of Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs). We need more transparency regarding who is being housed in HMOs in our area.

Welcoming Minister Mary Creagh to Westhoughton was an honour. She praised Toughsheet's innovative recycling, turning waste into building materials. A great step for sustainable UK construction helping us achieve Labour’s Plan for Change.

Labour's plan for change for working families across Britain is full steam ahead. Proud to support a better future for families and young people.
The Plan For Change will put more money in people's pockets, secure our borders and get the NHS back on its feet.

Thank you to Chief Inspector Chris Boyd for meeting Cllr John McHugh and I at Horwich police station to discuss concerns about speeding and dangerous driving in Horwich and Westhoughton. It's vital to work with Greater Manchester Police to keep our streets safe in Bolton West.

This cohort of young people started their secondary school life in the midst of the global pandemic so had an even tougher start to their school life.

Great to visit Bolton Lads & Girls Club, established in 1889. With alumni like Amir Khan, it retains boxing but also provides a gym, music recording, sports, and creative activities for young people. They’re becoming a Duke of Edinburgh’s award provider again and planning a new pitch and park area.
