…man, I’m about to spend a lot of money improving a home I still like in a city I still like, with no plan to leave either in the foreseeable future, and I can’t imagine being able to afford anywhere in NYC I’d want to live, BUT… I’m REALLY envying the transit-supported late-night life of NYC.

Happy 27 27 years old! You don’t look a day over 27! Well okay, one day over.

That’s right, John, sing this corrosion to me.

When I first looked at the app this evening around 8 pm, it did pop up an alert telling me that KC Metro’s real-time data feed was broken and Metro was working to fix it.

Perhaps ironically, for once the 40 I was catching was actually more or less on time.

Seriously, LOOK AT THIS. We are the indisputable capital of the northwestern US. Okay, going into Canada, Calgary is larger (1.3 million) and closer (450 miles) than San Francisco, but since it’s east of the Rockies, we’re also the capital of Cascadia / the PNW.

In fact, Seattle has been in the top 25 largest US cities every decade for OVER A CENTURY. It is FAR LONG PAST TIME for Seattle to grow the fuck up—in its mindset as well as literally in building heights and density—and act like the large city it is, not like a cluster of small town centers.

No city in the entire PNW—all the way through Alaska—is larger than Seattle. The closest larger US city is San Francisco (16th largest), 679 miles south; eastward, nothing larger until Chicago (3rd), 1,720 miles. When I moved here in 2002, we were 24th; we’re now 17th and still growing rapidly.

Like, the only way I see to rationalize Harrell’s budget proposal in the first place is that it made him look like an active progressive leader in this election year and then if he’d won, he’d have an excuse next year to kill off a lot of progressive programs that he didn’t really want to do.
