Seriously, LOOK AT THIS. We are the indisputable capital of the northwestern US. Okay, going into Canada, Calgary is larger (1.3 million) and closer (450 miles) than San Francisco, but since it’s east of the Rockies, we’re also the capital of Cascadia / the PNW.

Okay, I just checked to make sure, and I’m relieved on that count. I sure hope the usual trend—or even more than the usual trend—toward more progressive votes coming in later holds true this time, because we really need it!

Okay, a thing I dislike about Bluesky: the original thread by Ryan, whom I follow, WAS in my timeline, but now that the Urbanist, whom I also follow, has reposted selections from the thread, I can no longer see the original directly. I don’t want reposts by others I follow supplanting the original.

I’m not just yelling a lot on Bluesky, I did my civic duty yesterday: filled out my ballot and dropped it off.
VOTE:
Wilson for mayor
Evans for city attorney
Rinck for council position 8
Foster for council position 9

Also vote yes for Seattle Props 1 & 2, King County Prop 1, and State Measure 8201!

For some reason everyone focuses on the Midwest or central-West states as the whitest, but fun fact: for decades, the three whitest states have been the New England trio of Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire. As of 2022, West Virginia took third from NH; Utah was 12th in 2015 and 18th in 2022.

I’m glad both Kettle and @alexis4seattle.bsky.social support some version of making my neighborhood a Neighborhood Center, but Kettle could still be doing better; likewise the QA Community Council neither opposing nor supporting the QA Urban Center expansion. www.theurbanist.org/wp-content/u...

The article Chris posted mentions “no haze or clouds” as part of the best conditions, which maybe rules out my case. I certainly did not get a photo, but I was getting photos like this right at sunset so it was at least the right time and a good situation.

Happily picked up my preorder copy of The River Has Roots by @amalelmohtar.com from Elliott Bay Book Co this evening. Looking forward to reading it!

Here’s my top music of 2024 to consider for purchases!

At the New York Transit Museum, I saw this NY Times quote from 1873—27 years before construction of NYC’s first subway line began—about the necessity of rapid transit to make the city a home for everyone. 151 years later, too many people in the Seattle area still resist this truth.

The more modern trains on the MTA have good info displays; notably, this new A Line train has useful station navigation info at each stop. It made me wonder why the brand-new Link trains on the system *we’re still building* can’t provide this kind of information.

Would you look at this shit? @bsky.app you have GOT to fix the iPad app!
November 11, 2024 at 7:53 AM
Look what it’s doing after I had to rotate my iPad to portrait and back so I could add alt text on that screenshot—the reorientation was necessary (and I’ll have to do again for this one) because it wouldn’t scroll properly so I could see what I was typing and access the button to finish.

Case in point: screenshot after I clicked the previous post so I could add this screenshot. Essentially it’s kept the iPhone dimensions tipped sideways, thus showing less content overall. That is not how this is supposed to work! @bsky.app TWITTER did this right years ago, you can too.

People get into their 30s and start moaning about how most concerts start too late and why don’t more start early like 7 pm, and then they can’t be bothered to show up for the opening act at 7. Me, I’m excited to see Frankie Rose very soon!

(Belated posting after her set. So good!)

Apparently it’s Hammer Time.

I’ve been wondering when I’d find out! I tried checking my account and settings, but that information’s not there. Hmm, and this actually puts me in the first 4.6%.

So, I bought @tkingfisher.com‘s latest a couple weeks ago and just started it. I put it down for a moment to check something and when I picked it up again, it opened to this surprise… large postcard? small print? that I had no idea was in the book. Did the sorceress just conjure it there??

Okay so one thing I like about how Bluesky shows replies for people I follow is that sometimes I open it up for the day and immediately get this kind of out-of-context comedy gold, brought to me by @tkingfisher.bsky.social and @neolithicsheep.bsky.social.

So I just bought these Solovairs on the recommendation of my friend (who also said Docs’ quality has been terrible for decades, so avoid) BUT it turns out they’re way too roomy despite being the right length and chafed my heels badly. Now need to see if I can get heel-grip cushions to help.

On the one hand, I’d say I only think about the Roman Empire a few times a year—I am a nerd and gamer after all, it does come up—and on the other hand, I’ve been sharing this photo on the basis that it’s funny because it’s true.

After my initial posts yesterday, I belatedly thought of posting “blue skies” lyrics from the Ocean Blue’s song “Cerulean”, but I’d been focused on the KLF lyrics precisely so I could get the 3:00 am timestamp on the 3rd:
