When I was talking with some mutuals about how I felt like I wasn't very good at social media, it was pointed out to me that I don't post enough cat pictures. So, this is Mithrandir, Mith for short. We adopted him from the Iowa Human Society as a kitten. Spoiler alert: we should have named him Loki.

Just finished Metal from Heaven by August Clarke. Wow, definitely one of my favorites this year. It's hard to describe but maybe The Lies of Locke Lamora meets The Dispossessed? I'll be thinking of this book for a long time.

So excited to have hit 50 books so far this year! After my PhD, I struggled to get back into reading, and this is the first year I feel like I'm back to my old reading habits! And what a great book for number 50--Grievers by adrienne maree brown had me in tears but hopeful at the same time.

My novella When We Hold Each Other Up is one year old this month! This novella will always be a special project as I wrote it while finishing my dissertation, so it's infused with my thinking on Ursula K. Le Guin, Octavia Butler, Jeff VanderMeer, and N.K. Jemisin. #solarpunk

The final reading in my sci-fi and fantasy class was "When It's Time to Harvest" by @renanbernardo.bsky.social Students loved the depiction of technology and how the story acknowledged the climate crisis but the characters adapted. Perfect end to the semester!

Rereading The Truth About Stories by Thomas King to teach it in a few weeks and that first chapter just tears me up and reminds me why I write. In the words of King: "Don't say in the years to come that you would have lived your life differently if only you had heard this story."

Had a blast doing book events in Reno for my novel A Shot of Gin!
