My screen name covers some of it, except the part about being a progressive, middle-aged, white guy with young kids.

There was a bit of a green flash as the sun set below the marine layer on the horizon

Today I was patient, and my patience was rewarded. No green flash, but the sunset had fantastic color for like an hour.

I believe this is a member of one of the families of red shouldered hawks in the neighborhood. They posed for me nicely

Apparently I didn't stay long enough at tonight's sunset. I like this pic, but later there was way more intense color that I could see from further inland. I guess I need more patience

And then we woke up to this this morning. So much to see in San Diego Bay

On a little Staycation and this is the view from my hotel. I miss baseball

We've had clean swell for at least three days. I had a great session on Sat, a poor one yesterday, and a pretty good one today, all at shoulder to head high. The swell is still showing here at sunset today. So I might just be surfing 4 days in a row as of tomorrow morning. I love this time of year

Another nice sunset. No green flash
November 24, 2025 at 12:48 AM
Waves were glassy all day and still looked good at sunset, which was very pretty. But no green flash. Now let's see what tomorrow brings
November 23, 2025 at 1:23 AM
It rained ~3/4" yesterday, but I still chose to surf today. I could make excuses, but it's probably better if we all just recognize my hypocrisy. Surf was shoulder high, glassy, with long peeling corners for most of my session. I caught 2 ~150 meter rides, which is downright epic for my home break

If you see this, post your getaway vehicle.

(Nice try, cop)

And now for today's. There was a perfect keyhole for the sun at the horizon. And nice color off to the south
November 19, 2025 at 1:16 AM
I forgot to post yesterday's sunset. And it was something!

In between rain showers the sun sent some rays onto the storm swept ocean, near sunset. Not surprisingly, no green flash tonight
November 16, 2025 at 7:03 AM
This is why they recommend not surfing for 3 days after a rain. That brown streak a half mile out to sea is runoff. Obviously not everyone follows the advice
November 15, 2025 at 9:10 PM
No wind all day today and the swell is apparently building. The surf was firing this evening. I saw a buddy (no idea what his name is but we chat in the lineup regularly) catch the best wave I've seen yet this season. I didn't get out today, but glad to see a friend having a good session
November 15, 2025 at 1:20 AM
The ocean was surprisingly pretty this morning. We got ~0.1" of rain overnight, so the storm is here. But an offshore breeze was grooming the waves, which were good size, but too straight on to provide any corners

Not much of a sunset tonight, but the incoming storm is producing some cool looking clouds
November 14, 2025 at 2:19 AM
Spectacular sunset tonight. The sun was only visible for a few minutes, as the marine layer blocked it until just above the horizon. Even with this ridiculous color, there was a distinct green flash. First time the 10 yo has seen it. And then the sky caught fire, but my phone couldn't capture it

Osprey sighting

Not much of a sunset tonight. Apparently storm's a comin'. It'll be good to get some rain

Ahhhh... The life of a male lion. I'm not sure I have ever seen a creature relax so hard

If it was one degree cooler with 1% less humidity, my 10 yo would be going bonkers right now.
