Maude premiered this evening in 1972 on CBS. A spin-off of the controversial All in the Family, Maude was at least as provocative – & was a top-ten program in the fall of 1972. Norman Lear & Bud Yorkin created Maude. Long-time stage star Bea Arthur simply stole the show as the title character.
