Blue Origin launched its New Glenn rocket into orbit for the first time on Thursday morning.

Blue Origin has launched suborbital rockets, but New Glenn vaults the company into a bigger class of rockets that are the workhorses for reaching outer space.

I’m a Texas native. My family has been in the region since the 1830s. Freedom of religion must include freedom from religion.
The chair of the Texas GOP said Tuesday that church-state separation doesn't exist as Republican lawmakers vowed to give the Legislature "back to the Holy Spirit" and pastors promised to continue attaching the Johnson Amendment and weed out "cowardly" clergy who wont politick from the pulpit.

Abraham George’s comments are the latest sign of the state GOP’s embrace of fundamentalist ideologies that seek to center public life around their faith.

1. On the “lethality” debate: the problem for the U.S. military over the past few decades has never been one of “lethality” (the ability to kill people and break things) but mission and strategy. This requires insight and wisdom, not just warrior mojo.

@doctivist.bsky.social ordered me something special for Xmas and it arrived today! I love this jacket!

Spent some time this afternoon at Intuitive Machines learning about their next Nova-C moon lander, "Athena." On schedule to launch in late February, the IM-2 mission payloads include two rovers, a hopper, an ice drill and the first 4G/LTE cellular network demo on the moon.

The Moon is the next step in developing space-based industrial enterprise for the benefit of humanity. China knows this and has focused their sample return program accordingly. We must surpass those efforts for pluralistic democracy to win the 21st century. #AdLunam

I once met the CIA analyst who disproved the 200+ eyewitnesses that swore a missile hit TWA Flight 800. They misconstrued a burning fuel trail because they didn’t know the plane was distant & already broken up. I’m skeptical of this drone panic because people aren’t good at nighttime identification.

I’ve really gotten into Sleep Token recently. I’d heard Granite on XM Octane. Apple Music recommended them because of my Spiritbox, Bad Omens, and Gojira playlists. With lots of time in the car going to and from the hospital this week, I listened to Take Me Back to Eden in its entirety. Blown away.

Literally every UFO sighting in the past was attributable to the U-2, SR-71, or other aviation operations. I see no reason to believe this is anything different. People are just hyped up over things they never noticed before.
This is quite obviously flares from a military aircraft or fireworks from a performance one
Is it another type of #UFO #UAP?

We have a diagnosis and will be taking the First Child home later today. Thanks to everyone for their kind words.
Back in ER today. Being a doctor mom is both a blessing—I speak doctor and can translate—and a curse.
What a day. The First Child had a medical episode and spent most of the day in the pediatric ER. The Second Child and I finished his invention fair project while we waited for the call to come bring @doctivist.bsky.social and the First Child home. All’s well that ends well.

I would only note that we developed and landed IM-1 on the Moon for less than a tenth of one year of the flagship program budgets.
There is, of course, no quantitative way to rank amazing things that happen in space. We cannot measure their absolute magnitude nor assign them a numerical value, and trying to do so is something of a fool’s errand. I did it anyway.
