…because they cannot understand how it will improve their day-to-day life & only believe it will cost them money. We are “losing” in the fields of science & public health because we’ve lost touch of the communities we claim to serve. 3/

Putting too much emphasis on policy without acknowledging what it takes for a policy to have any traction is very important. In my opinion, we over-intellectualize an issue & make it completely unpalatable to the everyday person… 2/

Reach out to local & state public health departments, & other agencies that work towards public health goals. Volunteer your time, expertise, talents. This will take a lot of stepping in & stepping back — you’ll need to learn where you will fit in.

Reducing the eggs you buy for financial reasons alone makes sense, though 😮‍💨😭 I feel that deeply.

Risk to the general public remains low — eating poultry & eggs is still okay. Ensure you cook chicken (to 165F) & eggs well (avoid yolkiness if you’re being extra cautious). Hand wash after handling them, then clean + sanitize surfaces. Just do your best 🫂

It’s not feasible for many rural areas to fill the data gap on their own due to insufficient expertise & funding. Deleting &/or altering datasets is robbing communities of their ability to make the best decisions for their own communities.
