It's August 6 in Japan now. I'm thinking of my family's experience in Hiroshima 80 years ago and feeling grateful that I spent some time in the city this past January. Photo taken at Shukkeien, where my great grandmother evacuated to escape the fire that engulfed her neighborhood after the bombing.

Fifty years since the first arrival of Vietnamese refugees to Hong Kong, Juliana Yat Shun Kei asks how to adequately locate Hong Kong's Vietnamese refugee camps.

All of Yasmin Williams's Tiny Desk concert is great, but I was especially taken by the fascinating way this song combines instruments/techniques/sounds. Williams tapes a kalimba to her guitar and plays both at once, while she also tap dances on a tarima, backed by a djembe!
