It's 2 months until the start of the Spine Challenger South. I'm stepping up my training this month, with a 7hr trail run followed by a 25km run the next day. There's also a lot of kit to source, so I've managed to buy it all 2nd hand so far (staying on Brand though), & will try to borrow the rest.

Well that's a shame.... but understandable and worse for the organisers. 😔

Kit all ready for tomorrow's Long Mynd Hike. I've packed plenty of layers and another waterproof top as the weather looks "character building" 😲 🫨 💨💨

Looks like I'll be on the starting line in Edale in January 2026!
I'm happy having given up my place for the summer version in June. 😊 🏃♂️

Another beautiful day in the Lakes. We did a 10 mile loop round Great Langdale, summiting on Loft Crag, Pike O Stickle, Harrison Stickle, Pavey Ark, Thunacor Knott, High Raise, Tarn Crag and Blea Rigg. Had a nice swim in Easedale Tarn as well!

Today's hike was a bit longer than planned, but had to take advantage of the great weather. Walked up Rossett Pike, Allen Crag, Great End & Esk Pike, about 12 miles in all. I've been up all but Allen Crag before.

Two weeks to go until I run the Long Mynd Hike. 50 miles around Church Stretton, heading over to Stiperstones and a few other lumpy bits. I ran a recce of the middle section, which was useful as there are a lot of route choices! Starts at 1pm, so a good chunk will be done in darkness.

30 years ago today since my friend, Julia Wickenden, was hit by a speeding driver on Lawrence Road & killed 100m from her flat. She had been cycling home from a friend's.

They reached Kinlochleven early this afternoon. Only one longish [16 miles] day to go before they reach Fort William. And a shower! Still coping OK with some small blisters.

Spending the last few days of summer on the Llyn Peninsula. Had a quick swim this morning before the rain started.

West Highland Way update: They reached the Bridge of Orchy before the rain arrived. Well over halfway, with about 35 miles to go.
A couple of blisters so far, but less midges than expected. Apparently the mac & cheese in Tyndrum was fantastic (and it looks very)..

As requested by @drlygo.bsky.social, some pictures of the West Highland Way adventure. Making good progress up the far shore of Loch Lomond, & they have made it to Inverarnan. Got the tent up before it rained & now sheltering in a nearby pub. Lots of food photos but you don't want to see those!

My two youngest are starting their intrepid adventure on the West Highland Way hike. 96 miles to Fort William. Their backpacks are very heavy with all the camping kit. I'm hoping they don't get too much rain in the next few days!

This is Refugio Cabana Veronica in the Picos at around 2000m altitude. It's an upcycled aeroplane gun turret. Now a lot more peaceful..

I went to the Cabin Club when I was a student, although mainly spent time in the Razz, and vaguely remember Coconut Grove & The Grafton. #Liverpool #LostNightclubs. Shame there's no mention of the Mardi Gras club.

Thank you @michaelrosenyes.bsky.social for this poem in @theguardian.com. I work with amazing people from all over the world. Spain, Ireland, Philippines, India, Iraq, Syria, Poland and many other countries. Labour's language around immigration is so disappointing.
