Perhaps we can stop being so parochial about Starmer's trip to Washington now. It was a failure. We are in a battle against fascism. And every decision we make is judged by whether it assisted or opposed it.

One of my favourite folk myths in the UK is 'The Days When Postage Was Cheaper'. Love how the person serving at the post office always winces as they say something like, "It's going to be £1.49, is that ok?"

Just taking a moment to remember that when A J Ayer was working for the Special Operations Executive in 1941-2 he spent time in Algiers, and so may have passed an 11 year old Jacques Derrida in the street, maybe even kicked a football with him... #Ayer #Derrida

Very Freudian that, unlike other thinkers, if you disagree with some of the fundamentals of Freud you are accused of 'resisting' him. I disagree with some of the fundamentals of Hegel, but that's not 'resistance'.

Literary worlds colliding this week. In Brothers Karamazov, Dostoevsky mentions The Last of the Mohicans, and in Graham Greene's The Honorary Counsel the main character keeps reading Borges short stories! Any other examples? #dostoevsky #grahamgreene
