At some point we should really learn that relying on norms instead of legislation is a bad idea. "You have these rights unless the government really wants to overrule them, but don't worry they probably won't" strikes me as a pretty weak system.

My ride was three minutes away twelve minutes ago and has worked their way up to six minutes out. Cool.

It’s the opposite of the role he played as a councillor, but I’m hopeful that he sees the necessity of it. This is likely the closest Calgary will get to a clean slate in council in my lifetime. I’m sure it’ll descend into politics as usual at some point, but it’d be nice to stave that off a while.

If Farkas is serious about his whole personality turnaround (and folks I respect a lot swear that he is), he should be doing everything he can to start building bridges between councillors from day one. Anything you can do to keep them from seeing each other as caricatures and factions.

Especially when Wong’s biggest advantage was a fractured opposition. This was basically him screaming “here’s who has the best chance of beating me,” for multiple hours.

And then following it up with a pseudo-Dr. Seuss poem for some reason?

Maybe they’re just putting a friendly headline on it to make it seem like less of a hit piece. But yeah, “demanding” isn’t my takeaway from this one.

Obviously I can’t speak to the accuracy of the piece. But I do know that you can be demanding and also supportive. You can be demanding and forgiving, receptive, open-minded. Demanding and also a jerk is the easiest and least effective combo.
