There's also these metal ones. Which if you want to really liven up a street scene or bar interior you can really go ham with there. Delivery day means they'll be all over the floor and empty ones outside on the street for pickup. Plus they'll have the beer's branding, and be scuffed all over.

I found loosing what they would look like originally.

So to get this tablet to work as a monitor for my desktop I had to use an app called SuperDisplay. I noticed it could link via wifi, but figured it wouldn't be responsive and I wouldn't like it. Turns out, EXTREMELY responsive. Latency is non-existent. Now I draw wherever I want.

Ok ok I'll post this.

On an aside, if anyone is interested in commissioning me for for a bookcover or such I would love to chat! #Illustration #BookCover #moss #forest #stump #sleep #ClipStudio

A little sneak peak at something I'm calling 'The Desire to Become Moss'. ko-fi.com/i/IL3L21BCEIF

Do you ever wish to wander into the forest, lay down, and just let the moss take you? It seems quite peaceful.

I could probably keep noodling over this, but I won't. I love how it turned out. Getting the face and atmosphere right and everything fell into place.

spoilered cause it contains a small butt. consider yourself made aware.

Ok artist friends, not finished but I need fresh eyes. Something feels wrong about this, either compositionally, lighting wise, silhouette, or a secret third thing. I feel it, but I can't nail down what it is or how to fix it. What do you think?

I drew some inspiration from Caspar David Friedrich's forest scenes at the start. Trying to feel out how he did trees. I think I ended up with something kinda hazy and sketchy, which was always kinda my style for better or worse.

It's been a long long time since I've done any illustration so it took a minute to remember. I wanted to do something simple so the goal was just to make trees and familiarize myself with CSP. The brushes are fun. This piece really clicked for me when I started doing lines and shadows in red hues.

One last cool trick: If you put paint black into the normal map it will appear to be a perfectly dark hole.

Other notes: mesh uses 7 materials, and 2 UV sets. UV0 is all trim bits for specific small parts that needed extra love, UV1 is all 512 tiling textures and solid colors.

The smudgy roughness is done fairly similarly, starting with cells, and ending with lots of warping. final material lerps between two scalars for a little more control.
January 18, 2025 at 8:55 PM
The normal map distortion is done by using a cells node to build the RGB channels and then reduced to a very low opacity.

I also did a fair number of space ships. My technique wasn't quite there, but I quite like some of the designs.

A fair bit of my earlier work also involved robots, completely surprising to no one.

Bare in mind most of these were done around 2010, when I wasn't sure where my career goals were headed. I was already doing some 3D, but really didn't have a good handle on it.

You know what I haven't posting anywhere in a long time? My old illustrations.
