For over a decade, my Foundations of HCI undergrad course has covered “privacy & surveillance” with a (2002) reading about the Panopticon and a once distant warning about how social media sites could create a self-censoring reality. And Ellison is just… owning/celebrating the dystopia.
Larry Ellison envisions a surveillance state in which techbros rule. '“Citizens will be on their best behavior, because we’re constantly recording and reporting everything that is going on,” Ellison said in an hour-long Q&A during Oracle’s Financial Analyst Meeting last week.'

Last week @eileenguo.bsky.social reported that the State Dept—led by an extremist "acting" official—is seeking records on researchers and journalists, including me.

I explain why this is a dangerous development in the years-long "censorship" lie.

🚨 Read this to see how extremists within the US State Dept have *weaponized the government*. They made a list of journos & researchers they personally don’t like, ideological keywords, and are searching for mentions. They plan to leak, Twitter Files style.

This is by a conservative New York Times columnist. It’s hard to overstate the scale at which Trump is obliterating U.S. global leadership in service to a brutal fascist tyrant in Russia. 🧵
