Ecologist, birder, entomologist, botanist and bat botherer. Born in Liverpool and returned via circuitous route. I block dickheads on sight.
There is a Ruddy Shelduck of dubious origin that hangs around on the Mersey. Been there for several years. I agree that they could have pictured a more representative species. Harbour Porpoise might have been suitable. They've returned to the Mersey in recent years.

I have a 'birds I've accidentally widdled on' list. Short-eared Owl, Wren and Nashville Warbler.

It's become a circus and the year round 'lest we forgetting' and the amount of merchandise available devalues it. Don't have that high an opinion of the RBL either. No assistance when family (dad was on Atlantic convoys) was struggling in 70's/80's.

Hmmm, sounds like it's austerity for the poor again. 'We're all in this together'.

That head on shot is a cracker!

That continues to be one of my least favourite phrases 'at this moment in time'.

Thought it was just me! My first heard or seen Redwing of the autumn today. Latest ever by far, probably only the second time that I've had Fieldfare (heard y'day) before Redwing too.

I'm presuming that this bloke must have said he's English. #thesedays

I would have thought that his criminal record was reason for the stop? Will this 'journalist' defence be employed by all criminals now?

Once I heard Gove lying unchallenged ged about how we would get a better deal outside than in the EU that was me finished with Radio 4 as a whole. The Cameron appointments to the BBC have totally wrecked one of our greatest institutions.

Much of it Maize with its associated soil erosion problems.

Reform not openly racist enough?

Goid luck. I think I've done 100 walking in a 10 k square three times. Twice at Cley (one of those in winter) and once on my localnpatch in Dorset. The latter was one of my favourite ever days birding.

Also hope that you manage to either get re-enthused with your patch or move to a better one. I've had times in the past when I've fallen out of love with local birding when being inland or not having a walkable local patch.

I really enjoy reading your stuff as a (mostly) reformed twitcher. One of the most refreshing (and brave) things is your attitude of admitting and owning mistakes. Too many people try to cover their tracks or try to bluster their way out of it.
