Anybody else remember the right-wing freaking out over Jade Helm? Hmmmm...I wonder what those people have to say about this?

Trump could wear a literal crown, proclaim himself king on live TV, then sign a bill that is word-for-word the Enabling Act*, and too many Americans would still deny that even the most basic of freedoms are being eroded. Fuck this timeline.

*SCOTUS procedes to find it constitutional in a 6-3 vote.

Maybe I'm guilty of being terminally online (likely), but how are gopniks/tracksuits/slavsquats this mysterious to so many people? I thought that was an old meme tbh. And there's a Pepe version of almost everything; it may as well have it's own version of rule 34. Not everything is a Pepe reference.

To close on a positive note, here is one of my favorite quotes when I want to feel hopeful. It's from the late Canadian politician, Jack Layton. I'm not Canadian but always found him admirable (please don't tell me he was secretly awful lol).

Sorry for my long, rambling post. I generally do not like putting myself out there on social media, even anonymously/semi-anonymously. I had a lot to get off my chest, and I only scratched the surface. But maybe putting some of my thoughts into words will help stave off the temptation of doomerism.

It's difficult not to spiral into a dark place right now, but being a doomer won't solve anything. Now is the time for those of us who give a damn and want to live in a better world to stand up for our ideals - and to realize them.

To loop things back to my first post, the question is not just whether we can keep our Republic but whether we can keep our souls. Can we overcome the evil too many are openly embracing? Or will our country become only the worst parts of our history? I want to be optimistic, but I just don't know...

Our national mythos has many admirable virtues that we should stride toward. And yet, we seem to be embracing the opposite. I cannot imagine the betrayal people like the Ukrainians must be feeling as Trump stabs them in the back or the fear our most vulnerable must feel as they are attacked.
