Another amazing museum item. 19th Century silver jewellery box in the form of a fish by K.P. Thakur & Bros, H. Kharagpur, Monghyr, India. Every scale and fin articulates. #wales #museum #colonialism #arwap

Most museums have a WW2 gas mask... but colonial links? Yes. Made from Malayan rubber, Egyptian/Indian cotton, Australian/Canadian asbestos in the filters. No Empire, no gas masks. #wales #museums #colonialism

For the last few years I've been delving into Welsh museums fora project on collections linked to Empire, Slavery and Colonisation. Loads of interesting stuff.

This manila was made from Welsh copper. It was used as ballast in ships then as money to buy enslaved Africans.

Just a quick notice. If you're in North Wales on Wednesday, come to Menai Heritage at the Thomas Telford Centre and hear my talk on the Mulberry Harbours, and why local men won the war. 7pm in Menai Bridge.

After doing some work in the Gwydir Forest, a memory of one of my favourite places: Capel Gwydir Uchaf. The private chapel of the Wynns of Gwydir, built in the 1670s. It looks pretty plain from the outside... but go in... and look up...
