Thanks to World Champion Mathieu Van Der Poel for coming out to our group ride in LA this morning. He was so patient & friendly.

Today a 70-ish year old woman in a BMW screamed at me and flipped me off for riding in this bike lane. I have been attacked many times on my bike, but mostly by bros in pickup trucks. Is that changing now? Cc @pflax1.bsky.social

I rode in L’Étape on the brutal Stage 8 course of Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. There were 6,000 riders and nearly 40% were women. It was just extraordinary, and it feels like a phase shift is happening in cycling.

Sober reminder near my house of a cyclist recently killed by a driver. We need more safe places to ride.

Yes, but will Europeans travel here to watch the games, and the Olympics? The data says no.

Fantastic week at Sea Otter Classic. The elephant in the room at this huge event was the needless trade tariffs that are inflicting incredible pain on the bike industry and the employees therein. On the upside I rode the 90 mile Fondo this morning, which was glorious.

Terrific and hard ride yesterday up Mt Lemmon in Tucson, Arizona. What a privilege to be able to do that.

With my friends Tim and Scott this week at the Bicycle Leadership Conference in Tucson. A great event by @peopleforbikes.bsky.social that gets the whole industry together.

We have a new puppy, Ziggy, and life is just more fun.

Wildfires in March in Oklahoma (!!) have temporarily shut down my friends gravel race. Climate change is coming for sports and many other things.

My one takeaway going back to NYC after 6 years away is the growth of bike infrastructure. Super impressive: big bike lanes everywhere and huge CitiBike stations.

So much fun on my local/hard group ride, “Wednesday Worlds.” Getting in shape is intoxicating.

Good times this week shooting video content with Bicycling Mag. I am not often in front of the camera, so that’s fun.

I got to meet Marlon in person at the All Clubs event this weekend. Really great.

Riding on Saturday with the L39ion of Los Angeles bike racing team at the fantastic All Clubs event. IYKYK.

Watching a bike racing live stream this morning and proclaiming that, "Yes I do need to get to Mallorca this year to ride bikes."

I am making some kind of progress on Strava, even if it's not actually fitness related:

I've seen a lot in my life: civil wars on two continents, many earthquakes, but man, it is UNNERVING here in LA right now with the fires. And so many friends have tragically lost their homes. I'm exhausted, and sad.

And...we're back to watching pro cycling live streams. The season has started at Tour Down Under, and I couldn't be happier to have a distraction from what is happening in the US:

Happy to follow @procyclingstats.com live race coverage now the cycling season has started.

I rode north on my bike today to escape the smoke. This is looking South towards Woodland Hills and Calabasas with the Palisades Fire directly behind. Still feels like it's very big and strong.

Fire is heading north (photo is from my driveway 2 hours ago) and now upper Encino and most of Brentwood being evacuated. I just keeps going...
