The timing of the LA 2028 Olympics could not be any worse: 4 years into Trump's term, foreign visitors terrified of ICE raids, and an LA City budget shortfall of almost $1 billion. This article highlights the fear in the LA28 leadership ("OMG we can't lose $!"): www.nytimes.com/2025/09/11/a...

Today a 70-ish year old woman in a BMW screamed at me and flipped me off for riding in this bike lane. I have been attacked many times on my bike, but mostly by bros in pickup trucks. Is that changing now? Cc @pflax1.bsky.social

I had a discussion with my niece last month on this exact topic. She's a student at UCLA. Good POV from Clay Shirky:
NYU vice provost Clay Shirky says amidst the challenges of AI, "a return to a more conversational, extemporaneous style will make higher education more interpersonal, more improvised and more idiosyncratic, restoring a sense of community to our institutions."

I rode in L’Étape on the brutal Stage 8 course of Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. There were 6,000 riders and nearly 40% were women. It was just extraordinary, and it feels like a phase shift is happening in cycling.
