Generally use social media for news and politics. I like what Pete Buttigieg says. It's the kind of stuff I think, but just can't quite articulate as well.

Also into wood carving primarily with a mallet and gouges.

Traverse City right now.
Many thousands at protests.

Hands off.

Yeah, I started with power carving and the vibration and dust was too much. A year with a couple Stanley chisels turned me completely into hand tools and now I'm happy.

I support and appreciate my friends and neighbors who work for the National Park Service and all parts of the Federal Government who are receiving insulting and threatening letters from their own government urging them to quit.

We need you.

I'm going to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Monday Feb 3 to show some love to our National Park Service civil servants.

Our federal workers are being told to resign en masse

These stewards of our national lands deserve our support.

Pretty on point yard sale find this morning. Washingtons Farewell where he warms against kings and a pocket Constituon.

Also the only Constitution without a 14th amendment I'll accept. Printed in 1812.

Little fox out of cedar and painted with acrylic I finished over the weekend.

It's a more kitchy and cute piece than I typically do, but I'm really proud of the execution of this piece from a square block and without a sketch or model. Just used brainpower to visualize it.

Good practice.

I got the idea from this image and went from there.

Working on a holiday gift. Tackle box for the kiddo.

Finally got the first pivot jingle to work. Watching it work in action for the first time is the best gift I've given myself all year.

Feels great. Good luck to all the crafters out there trying to find time to get it done.

I've been using my veining tool to gouge out between the rings on softwood planks. Just a quick and soothing carve that really brings the grain into stark relief.

Makes sariafying shavings too.

Deceptive picture then. I ended up veining in between each of the grain lines.

Coffee scoops.

Made these a few years ago before I got into handtools.

Hollowed out the scoop using an Arbortech ball gouge on my angle grinder, then cut the blank out of the board with a jigsaw, then shaped on a oscillating sander.

It worked great, but fuck the dust.

Peapod out of an ancient apricot branch carved this summer.

This was a fun carve and a great opportunity to practice flipping the big gouges upside down/ curved down.

I love carving big pieces.

Thanksgiving Eve, snow predicted soon. Really wish I didn't have to wait another two weeks for Brandon Sandersons's Wind and Truth to be out.

Saw these in an old library book. Anyone see/build/stay/live in one?

Maybe our invasive phragmites could be put to use?
