yea i appreciate that answer. i appreciate the switch to "engage" - i picked up (though not played yet) halls of hegra, b/c the engagement aspect of it struck me as pretty unique. in a similar way i hear this war of mine....not happy, forces hard decisions. seems a good tool for empathy too 🤷
cheers

for me too, genre lets me separate the violence into entertainment. a star wars game firefight is more palatable than these medal of honor type games, where one is aiming said weapon at face of said target and pushing X to fire 😕
but perhaps simul. creates empathy 🤷

yea, I imagine it's a way many historians make their interests tangible. a way to get closer to the subject they've possibly studied, written about etc. i also find it very interesting how many of these games use cards to display actual events.
as a learning mechanism, there can be value there

[caveat]I am not a vet. I know a few.
But yes! it's exactly how I feel about education. these people take on this stressful (or dangerous) work and we pay lip service, but...
they do deserve that care and attention

wondering @zillablitz.bsky.social ial @beyondsolitaire.bsky.social al @djackthompson.bsky.social if this is something that comes up in the field?
i love history, read about numerous conflicts, watched movies, etc but packaging as a game to have fun with humans in war 🤷
no judge, genuinely curious

This was one of the best games I ever played! For about 3 years. I really soured on the design choices at the end of its official support. I felt they ruined the spirit of the game🤷
Being said, it was brilliant fun and have heard the new iteration (nisei?) has done great things for it!
