Text: Then: It took Yibo three days to break back into the lab's network without tripping an alarm. He'd learned his lesson last time and didn't make himself known as he eavesdropped. The researchers were still scrambling to solve "the problem," even putting their other projects on hold. That was a real problem, because the lab's sole purpose was the creation of sentient robots. As far as Yibo could tell, there were no official plans beyond that, although in the many correspondences and articles he'd read, there were phrases like, "don't need to pay a robot," and "Yeah, but like, aren't you curious what it's like to fuck one?" One interview with a major donor of the lab went into "transhumanism" and how "uploading your consciousness into an immortal body" could become a reality soon. Yibo imagined his own consciousness being scrubbed to make way for that man, imagined someone else piloting his body and using his face, and had to take a break from the network for a day, wracked with a revulsion so strong that a nervous-looking junior researcher came with two armed guards to check up on him. He quickly learned that those who didn't covet him, feared him. Almost no one felt any kind of sympathy or understanding. Maybe it does have a point, he found Shen Lu writing once, and had allowed himself a brief moment of hope. If it's truly sentient then it must have its own thoughts. Machines, Dr. Wei had written back, are made to fulfill a function.

The premise was newly-sentient robot yb x twelve-faced god xz whose appearance and powers change depending on what the people praying to him need, and gosh I hope I can pull it off! 🤞

TURN BACK - RETREAT IN EFFECT. The burn marks on this old factory reach twice his height. His automated death count is in the thousands. His stabilizers struggle between the soft sand and rubble. His rear sensors are on such high alert that he startles at every shift in the air, waiting for the inevitability of search drones, and— He rounds a crumbling wall, and there, only nine meters away, stands the god. The only reason he knows this creature is the war god is that his systems note the same unknown, tingling energy as before. But gone are the armor and sword; the humanoid thing bent over half a corpse is shrouded in liquid shadow that pools at its feet like a black hole. It presses a pale thumb to the corpse's brow, and the corpse shudders once before sighing faintly. And then the god straightens up and stares right at him, eyes dark behind a gossamer veil of shadows, and Yibo freezes. His danger alarms rise to a cacophony, but there's nowhere to run. The crumbling wall can't save him now that he's been seen. He rests a shaking hand on the plasma gun at his hip, and the god cocks an eyebrow. The meaning is clear: you think you can kill a god? Of course he can't. Yibo lifts his chin and clutches the gun tighter anyways.

Wow an actual, complete rough draft of the space laundromat fic! Which took 6 months for 6k words 🫠 how to write faster (tbf I did scrap a lot and start over at one point)

Then some part of his hyperdrive jammed—yes, he figured out how to make a light, compact hyperdrive, he's a very advanced model, why else would the company want him back so badly?—and landed here to fix it. He's lucky Xiao Zhan was willing to help him. Won't his savior tell him his name, so Yibo can thank him properly? Screenshot part two: "You were so quiet and cautious when I first met you," Xiao Zhan says with a shake of his head as he pulls a shirt out of the dryer and begins folding it. "What happened?" Yibo just laughs. Full and loud, head thrown back. Anyone would smile upon seeing such easy joy. "I learned that Zhan-ge is kind and trustworthy and brave. The most brave. No one can compare—" Xiao Zhan throws a sock at him, which he dodges and throws right back. "Go fix your...whatever it was," Xiao Zhan says. "СВМ rotor." "Go fix your CBM rotor and let me fold my laundry in peace."
