Very few commercial pies stand up against home made, to be sure. Crust (butter!) must be flaky and flavorful & filling must showcase the fruit. Most bakery pies are too gummy and too sweet.
I like combos: Apple-cherry or apple-peach are good (in season best of all). Pumpkin-pecan is also delish.
