Tumblr user nocryptographer: I talked with someone who works in book publishing, and they mentioned they get a lot of AI slop these days. I asked how they know what's human-written, and they said that there's one thing that will reveal AI slop without error, and that's the author not knowing their own creation. A real author can talk about their story for hours. They love to elaborate every character, every twist, every detail. Because those existed in their head long before they ever made it to the paper. They were loved before they were written. AI slop wasn't. It was just vomited into existence. Someone who generates their story with AI will never bond with their story the way real writers do. That's why they may not know what to say when they're asked why did the character do this, or even remember the scene in the first place. It's something they read, not something they wrote. And to a writer, those are not the same. There's a unique bond between the creator and the creation. If your writing doesn't come of you, you'll always lack that. I keep hearing soon we won't be able to tell. And perhaps, in a superficial sense, that's true. But there is a difference. It's not em dashes or repeated words. It's whether the story was made by someone who loves it and cares about it. If the writer's eyes light up when asked why did the character do that? and they start their very own Ted Talk about that specific scene... then it's real.

I get this, but what too many people want is indie passion but AAA production value... which is nearly impossible.

Indie games are fantastic, but the extra bit of slickness and polish of a *good* first-party Nintendo game is still unmatched for reasons obviously not the fault of developers.

Anyone caught tossing trash in the pots and pans, I will tell Santa to skip your house this year! This is your *only* warning!" The phone receiver is now on the hook. From the left, another employee named Katie approaches him holding a wrapped sandwich and handing him a bottle of soda as she says with a smug expression: "*And* next up is Mikey. Roast beef and *yellow* mustard because being assistant manager means having no taste." Mikey turns towards Katie and holds out his hand to grab the bottle, then says sarcastically: "Oh wow! Lunch *and* flattery? You really shouldn't have! Soda in-hand, Mikey turns the cap to open the bottle, only for the soda to foam up and splash with a loud, then tapering "PSH PBFBLL". Went to Newgrounds to redownload Swivel because I lost my copy, and ended up scrolling through art for a good 10 minutes.

Genuinely inspiring that despite everything right now, there's still an overabundance of people making cool things.

Gives me some naive hope for the future of creative work.

"You dont gotta use AI for the final product, but why dont you use it for ideating and getting new ideas?" Because a core part of the creative process is taking what is in your head and translating it, yourself, into art. I can already use real life objects and 3d models as references.
