I mean, Bessent is lying, but even if he wasn’t…paid speech is protected too? The whole point of calling out a paid shill is to discredit the shill, not to justify state violence against the shill.

To me, it’s strange to be fatalistic about the outcome but insistent about the start of the process. It’s like “you *must* grease and flour a 9 inch cake tin and preheat the oven to 350. Maybe a cake will happen in the future; I’m not so worried about that.”

That’s a good first step, but respectfully, your use of the phrase “was handled” is premature. There have been no consequences for the perpetrators, so it has not yet been handled.

In terms of accountability, the American people’s expectations aren’t unreasonable. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth will do. And god help you if you fund them.

What I’m hearing is that if we could DE-monetise trump’s brownshirt organisation and then use the money we save to FUND affordability measures then we could win the debate on both issues simultaneously and THE POLICE would stop being such a problem.

It sounds like it would be more appropriate to do something other than keep funding them - like maybe a series of trials? Didn’t work perfectly in Nuremberg, but overall a few particular lengths of rope did the world a power of good.
