Say hello to Ben 👋, my new MChem padawan here in the O'Hare group at Uni Oxford 👨‍🔬👨‍🏫. Together we will explore new worlds in the organometallic universe for the next couple of months 😎 (and of course I ve sent him through the organic proligand synthesis parkour first 😄).

Superb idea: Introducing alternatives to dichloromethane in teaching labs!
I love my DCM in few synthesis applications, but avoiding it in teaching labs is the way to go 💪. Nicely written and comprehensive view on things. #DCM #Sustainability pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...
Alternatives to Dichloromethane for Teaching Laboratories
New US regulations restricting dichloromethane (DCM), also called methylene chloride, may prompt instructors of teaching laboratories to avoid its use entirely. This commentary addresses the hazards, ...

A global concern: Can fluorochemical production be sustainable?
Turns out you can avoid CaF2 mining and utilise existing (problematic) F-chemicals as source for other F-compounds via a trivial one-pot protocol at any conventional Schlenk line!

Exciting new @chemrxiv.bsky.social preprint from @pentaleniko.bsky.social, @sarahlpatrick.bsky.social , @andreasphanopoulos.bsky.social and Jiahuang Mao. They report a simple transfer fluorination method to recycle fluoride content of HFCs, HFOs, fluoroethers, and PFAS. chemrxiv.org/engage/chemr...

Am I the only one who can't tag or post pictures here? Each time I come close to these ideas... this app is imploding 😡. Reinstalling hasn't helped. Meh.

It's a wrap: My time in the Crimmin group at Imperial College has come to an end! 😯 Very eventful two years and I am very thankful for all I ve seen and learned. 🕺🙏 Now time to calm down... at #Dalton2025 and talk for the first time (Wednesday) to others about my F-chem 🤩😁

@dereklowe.bsky.social What an amazing love letter to my eternal love 💚. I would sign this immediately! Thank you very much!

PS: I will soon share an exciting new aspect about introducing F atoms into molecules. Hope you gonna like it :) Stay tuned!
Despite its fearsome reputation for danger and toxicity, fluorine is seen by medicinal chemists as an old friend. As columnist Derek Lowe explains, that’s because – like a criminal Godfather – it offers several benefits that no other element can match.
Fluorine makes you an offer you can’t refuse
What might we do if we had a new, electron-donating equivalent element?

Hell has a special place for people who use heteronuclear NMR and don't mention their referencing substance in their ESI.
